The former sub-postmaster who helped uncover the Horizon scandal, Alan Bates, has said he’s “shocked” to receive a knighthood as part of the King’s birthday honours. Mr Bates fronted the Justice for Subpostmasters Alliance, and became the leading name of ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, in which Toby Jones played him. However, he says he’s accepting the award “on behalf of the group”, after he turned down an OBE last year, and the “insult” of former CEO, Paula Vennells, receiving her CBE. Great he deserved it uncovering the largest ever Miscarriage of Justice in the UK

Him having a knighthood won't make a scrap of difference.

The government are doing their best to slow down and reduce compensation payments, or 'dragging their heels' as Sir Alan said. The fact that he was knighted for services to justice can only help the postmasters case.

The fact that he was knighted for services to justice can only help the postmasters case. It helps us all because it says his actions are what our country stands for. Why they gave Vennells a CBE is the thing that pisses me off, and all those with honours like her. Of course the other hero is Julian Assange. I hope he gets out soon, although I don't think we can give him a knighthood since he is Australian.

A knighthood isn’t enough. A Peerage is more apt.

Hopefully it will add a bit more weight to the post masters case. I doubt it. The cases are all based on evidence. Him having a knighthood won't make a scrap of difference. That's true. But outside factors can put a firework up the arse of slow moving administrations.
The "Mr Bates vs The Post Office" four-part television drama on ITV is the latest example...
