Parachuting Candidates on to constituency lists to give seats to loyal lap-dogs should be banned. The simple way to do this is to make it a requirement for a candidate to have lived in the constituency for two years before being eligible to be elected to the HoC for that constituency. It would also mean that candidates should be more aware of the issues facing the constituents.
Both Labour and Conservatives are guilty of this and it should, IMO, be banned. It wholly undermines local representative democracy and thereby creates a democratic deficit.

I agree with you in relation to the current FPTP system. However, I'm not a fan of FPTP myself. We need voters to believe that their vote counts, every one, and for that we need PR. That would upset the local candidate system entirely, however, and I don't have a comprehensive answer as to how to rectify the local representation issue.
