With much of the world appearing to be suffering from Electionitis, I've noticed that two other bicameral democracies in the news have smaller national assemblies and larger populations than the UK.
The US has a total of 535 — 100 in the Senate and 435 in the House of Representatives. The population of the US is 341 million.
India has 543 members in its Lower House and 250 members in its Upper House. India's population is 1.44 billion.
The UK has a population of about 68 million. The House of Commons has 650 members, and about 780 in the Lords.
Now the UK also has devolved legislatures in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with Westminster also looking after England, does the UK have too many MPs in Westminster...?

It's a question that seems to come up every few years and I think most people and indeed most politicians would agree there are too many not just Lords and MP's, but too many quangos, too many civil servants, too many levels of bureaucracy. Will it ever change? Well it wont get smaller, if it changes at all it will probably get worse or bigger because I cant see the establishment reducing its own reach, power or influence.

Bicameral, thats a new word ill have to look it up, does it describe Caramac?, i liked that. Government is way to big, the wage bill would be enough to raise an army, its a socialist business, always employ more. The more people who depend on the state for pay will vote for those that want to enlarge state interference in everything.
The left is like being consumed by an octopus, with its arms around you, its only time....

Why do they need nearly 830 members on this gravy train for a population of 70 million when the USA manages with 100 senators for a population of 350 million.
