In spite of the fact that junior doctors were awarded a pay rise of 9% last year the BMA has announced that their members will strike from June 27th for five days, they are demanding a 35% pay rise. This is politically motivated and highlights how left wing and 'activist' the BMA have become in recent years.
Both the government and Labour have told the BMA that a 35% pay rise is unaffordable, it will not happen. Apart from that, the government cant negotiate policy during the run up to the election due to purdah and the activist BMA are aware of this. So it would seem they are striking, putting patients lives at risk, as a political stunt.
Any sympathy the public may have had for junior doctors is I think rapidly evaporating.
