There was a good article by Ross Clark over the weekend about the dilemma being faced by UK car manufacturers. Basically it looks like pure electric cars are topping out at about 15% of the market share. Their sales have stalled. But the daft law now is that 22% of new cars sold in the UK (by manufacturer) have to be pure electric and any other new cars attract a fine of £15,000. So our car manufacturers will have to restrict non-electric car sales or pay huge fines which are uneconomic.
Stellantis (Vauxhall etc) have said that what they will have to do is set up a trading agreement to sell cheap Chinese electric cars – which start at about £17000. This will allow them to sell more petrol/diesel cars.
So we get the situation where UK car companies are selling Chinese electric cars – which are made using state subsidy and energy that comes from cheap coal-fired power stations – so that our daft govt can claim to have cut our CO2 emissions. But of course all the CO2 (and more) is still being emitted but it’s not counted because it’s emitted in China.
Crazy. We’re deliberately destroying our industry. Meanwhile the USA is slapping a 100% tax on Chinese cars – which is much more sensible.

Oh hang on fires are bad for the climate emergency so no just freeze. I wonder what Greta would’ve done when krakatoa erupted and dumped all that crap in the atmosphere linkWorld population is the real problem.
