EU accuses Eurovision bosses of handing gift to ‘enemies of Europe’ with flag banThe unelected EU commission vice president Margaritis Schinas said the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to ban EU flags during Saturday’s Eurovision final was a gift to “the enemies of Europe,” she went on to say “It’s mind-blowing, what the EBU did.” However, a spokesperson for the EBU said the Eurovision flag policy this year was “the same as in 2023,” with fans only permitted to bring flags of “participating countries and the rainbow/pride flags. linkThis is wonderful, the unelected presidents are enraged because the brainwashed proles who support them were not allowed to advertise the EU, in the EU, lol.

It sounds like one of those enemies of the state rants that failing despots make.

The broadcast organisation is Swiss.
Putting aside how the EU have treated the Swiss in trade negotiations, the EU must surely understand that as a 'rules based' behemoth, the rules are:
If your country is singing fly your flag.
The EU is not a country and doesn't have a contestant.

The EU is not a country. The ESC is between countries.
I have lost hope you will ever understand the nature and purpose of the EU.

So tell us Kim, if the EU don't have their own contestant (which they clearly don't) why are they winging and whining that their flag isn't allowed at Eurovision?
You tell me, I am all ears.
If you can't even understand the nature and purpose of the thread, then all hope is lost in trying to explain this very simple topic to you.

I very much doubt if more than a very few people in Europe even know of this. I havent seen anything about it in any of my sources which cover the main papers across Europe Only UK click baiters give a toss.

The EU Flag is NOT a flag which was designed to represent the European Union
The EU flag was adopted by the European Union from the Council Of Europe, and the flag represents EVERY nation of Europe excluding Belarus and Russia, including non-EU nations.
To be a member of the European Broadcasting Union, a media organisation must be (A) a public broadcaster, and (B) from a country which is a member of the Council Of Europe.
It seems absurd for an organisation which insists that EBU members must be from within the Council Of Europe, but then bans the flag of the Council Of Europe.
The flag of the EU and Council Of Europe is frequently used as a symbol by millions in places such as Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus and other places in the fight against oppression, dictatorship and authoritarianism.

No it does not - Israel, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Lebanon are among the EBU members who are not in the Council of europe. The EBU has absolutely zilch to do with the EU.

Instead of pretending you live in a silo of information that ringfences you from any adverse effects of the EU, try broadening where you gather your information from, and address the following quotes: A spokesperson for Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also criticized the EBU’s move, saying: “It is certainly regrettable to ban the flag that is the flag of all the EU members and other Council of Europe members taking part in the contest and often flies alongside national flags on public buildings.” Schinas told Playbook: “I cannot find the logical explanation for why the EBU is doing this. And what does this serve?” “Less than a month from the European elections, who wins from banning the EU flag from Eurovision?” the commissioner added. “Only the Euroskeptics and the enemies of Europe.” Your obfuscation of the topic is noted. It seems you would rather deny the whinging as click bait UK toss in your dislike of reading material and quotes you don't like, but nonetheless they are coming from the Commission's representative, and thus Commission.

Let me restate what I stated previously, because what I stated was misleading
ALL of the European members of the EBU are nations which are members of the European Council, which essentialy means that the EU flag (adopted from the European Council) is representative of every European member of the EBU.
The flag of the EU is adopted, it was adopted from the European Council - the same flag
