As if to add fuel to the present fire, the European Court of Human Rights has upheld a ban on ritual slaughter passed in two of Belgium's three regions in 2018; Brussels, where 20% of the population is Muslim, is exempt.
The Court has overturned earlier judgments that such bans contravened Art. 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights which guarantees inter alia freedom of religion, despite intensive lobbying by Muslim and Jewish interest groups.
Perhaps the ECvHR and the Court are not such a waste of time after all.
