Actually, I quite like the monarchy. The way I see it, if we abolish the monarchy we could build lots more hospital and the country would home to even more folk moaning and groaning about some largely imaginary affliction.
So I reckon Big Ears is safe for a long while yet

If they got rid of the monarchy we would end up with some dickhead like Boris as the President. I'd rather have the Royal Family, at least they have some class and dignity (apart from the sweatless pedo).

When you look at other major countries presidents, it makes me wonder if a Republic is all it's cracked up to be. |

I'm no royalist and my MBE is toast but I rather suspect Blair's bitch would be first in line to replace them and the cost once they succeeded would make the civil list or whatever it's called look like peanuts, also you can expect a reversal of the rather recent policy whereby the sovereign pays income tax..... |

If I was an American citizen, would I be happy to swear allegiance to a head of state who happened to be Donald Trump ? .... NOT EFFING LIKELY.
Part of any nations constitutional functions MUST be to protect the constitution, and having a political Head Of State is not a great idea.
Having a Head Of State non-political, above politics, with no political affiliaton, and with a duty to hold polital leaders to account if necessary, and with the constitutional powers to do so, is the better system, and we have that better system.

Im a staunch royalist, if we did away with royalty, the palaces etc, where would the money go? Where it always goes, it will dissapear into a black hole. Royalty is priceless, it makes big bucks in tourism, it seals business deals, why did the ex queen recive visitors?, to get deals signed.
If the Russians mass on the French coast, ready to come over, a man on a horse, riding along the beach would be a wondrous sight.

Royalty are part of our culture and traditions. We're always being told that we must respect others but there's zero chance of that if we can't even respect our own.
