Starmer has publicly emphasised his opposition to any change to the 1963 deaccession act which prevents the British museum from returning the marbles. But privately an insider said "behind-the-scenes talks are happening [About handing the marbles to Greece if Labour win the election] but we’re talking about quiet diplomacy because it is so sensitive." "Starmer said he would not want to broach the subject publicly for fear of the backlash that would come with the inevitable rhetoric of Labour "losing its marbles" in the run-up to polling day." www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/nov/25/keir-starmer-open-to-return-of-parthenon-marbles-reports-saySo publicly Starmer wants voters to believe he will not hand the marbles to Greece. While behind closed doors he is arranging to do exactly the opposite. I wonder, what else is he lying about? What else is he not telling us until after the election?

I'm not sure this is an issue that is going to get a whole lot of people riled up, I doubt it even registers on most peoples radar - so I cant see why he doesn't just come out and say what he is going to do rather than looking shifty.

Starmer will do everything that is anti-English, anything that represents English heritage, culture and values he's going to destroy it, he'll want the Union Jack gone and replaced with European Union flag just like Sturgeon, he is a win win win for woke snowflake diverse virtue signalling white hating racists.

Or maybe we stole them and should return them, nothing to do with nationalism.

I know that I am not alone in being mystified and appalled that the politicians and the British museum have not yet come up with a way to do the right thing and return these precious 5th century BC antiquities to Greece where they properly belong. Regardless of whether they were or were not legally obtained, they are part of Greek heritage and very obviously have much more meaning to the Greeks than to anyone else on earth. The honourable thing to do is to send them home without delay.

Or maybe we saved them from being removed by thieving locals … The Smithsonian, all too readily a follower in Elgin’s shoes when it comes to asset stripping, clearly enjoys painting Britain in the worst possible light and happily ignores the fact the Ottoman Empire with whom Elgin was dealing were led by Moslems, whose attitude to non islamic culture is exemplified today by ISIS’s demolition of world heritage sites, and facing invasion by the French who detained Elgin on his return for the crime of beating them to the prize of all the Hellenic art they could plunder.
