This is the one result which could be enough to push Tory MPs to force a new leadership conest
Of course the answer to the thread title is NO, Andy Street has lost, he's lost despite an unknown independent taking thousands of votes from Labour supporters on the issue of Gaza.
The West Midlands in THE Bellwether region of England, whoever wins here, wins the general election

If the election wasn’t first past the post and had transferable votes, I reckon it’s likely Labour would have done even better in areas where the party’s stance on Gaza is thought to have cost Labour support…

Without the Gaza protest vote, Labour would have clearly walked it

In answer to the question... ...No. I actually feel a bit sorry for him. He's done a decent job here in the West Mids, but anti Tory sentiment has driven him out. Ironically the swing against him was smaller than that against Ben Houchen, who managed to hold on. He looked absolutely devastated in his interview on Sky News tonight. I hope that he stays on within the Tory Party as a sane voice in an insane club.

Personally I would do away with metro mayors, and police and crime commissioners. They just add more levels of bureaucracy, and cost a fortune.

I'd do away with the Police and Crime Commissioners, in fact that was exactly the reason I spoilt my ballot in that one. I see the roles of the metro mayors as quite important in terms of overall strategy for regions. Andy Street was a big ambassador for business, and I think that his record there was reasonable. He also stood up to Rishi when he abandoned HS2, and has been working with Andy Burnham in Manchester on alternatives. I'd like Richard Parker to look at transport, with a more integrated and working system - for a start I'd love for more trains on the Sunny Nunny to Leamington line, one an hour is impractical for commuting. Andy Street did well to get the line open, but the lack of trains is a real issue.
