This happened for example with Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat to a white person on a bus, and who became the focal point of a campaign for justice. What a shame that some white people are offended by our history of racial discrimination, including the murder of black people, and the fact that we actually apologise to these families for what happened ... There is a history of racial discrimination in the UK from some groups and from some individuals that does not make it 'our' it makes them historical events most especially murder. Why should most of us apologise for things that are neither our fault and indeed were often against our own behavioural norms as your example shows. In the Lawrence case the police should have been castigated for getting it wrong and for a poor attempt at an investigation but all that has followed have been political decisions including the 'findings' and 'recommendations' from McPherson. |
