Can anyone tell me what this accent is. I've never heard anything quite like it before - except when her sister Ellie opens her gob. It's peculiarly annoying - and it makes Angela Rayner sound almost cultured.

Is it what used to be called Estuary English? sort of like Janet Street Porter, she comes across as a drab uninspiring humourless old bird, hardly the best we can put on the world stage, but that together with Raynor and Lammy is what everyone is going to vote for.

Sounds pretty accurate.

That's certainly a factor but there's something else too. It's partly Estuary but she seems to mangle almost every vowel in unusual ways.

She has been taking elocution lessons and I think she practised that speech a bit because it was intelligible. She says "make" instead of "mike" for example. I suppose the basic accent is South London but it's still odd.
I know it's regarded as elitist to knock people because of their accent but that doesn't stop the media from taking the piss out of Jacob Rees-Mogg so I thÃnk the likes of Rayner and Reeves are fair game. Like it or not, they're going to be judged unfavourably by many people because of the way they talk.

I have heard similar sounding speech from people with hearing problems, and those with brain damage. I think it is just "affected" speaking.
