Good news — Wetherspoon Rochester Castle pub in Stoke Newington is to remain open!!!
It was up for sale, and the fear was it would be pulled down and/or converted into flats, as has happened to other properties down the road in Dalston.
Locals ran a petition, and Tim Martin and his team appeared to have listened to their plea to stay open. Tim won a lot of goodwill when he announced that those hit by fuel costs and rising prices were welcome to stay warm in Spoon's reading newspapers and enjoying endless coffee refills.
Not a frequent user, but it is a friendly local venue, welcoming old and young alike, and a meeting place for informal groups that like chess and crossword competitions. I think we would have missed it if it closed...

The problem with London is that 95% of the entertainment seems to be eating out/fast food takeaway and your pubs and now your coffee shops. My view is it is all very well having these places, but as it becomes a way of life it really is so dull. If you go back many years London was known for far more entertainment that just that. I was looking at the place called the Trocadero and even that ended up derelict. I mean why would anyone visit London to have someone make them a coffee? It hardly demonstrates much nouse from the Brits

The Trocadero became a game zone, mainly electronic yet with some hands-on games too.
Might even have had souvenir shops on the ground level.
Home computer games got too good I guess.

It hardly demonstrates much nouse from the Brits Suggestions — visit Frameless, ABBA Voyage, Tina among other events and venues that cater for all interests and tastes.
Despite the ineffectiveness of London night tsar Amy Lamé — appointed by mayor Sadiq Khan to revive the fortunes of the city's ailing nightlife — London is still one of the premier European cities to visit, as it caters for almost every activity and interest...

I went once before probably early 90s, it was when you could drive around late and park up without getting a ticket. It seemed to be a cafe and Italian ice cream place -Gelateria or something similar. Might also have had a kebab place out the back and music store above. So given it's location and if you could buy it for a pound yet not pull down the building what would you do with it?

On my farewell tour of my old London haunts I was having a few pints around Clapham Junction last week . Met a girl , well a pensioner now but I still see her as a girl I used to work with for a bit of lunch . The pub we were in not only wanted £18 for a pint and a VAT it was looking for £20 each for a small bar meal . Now Im not tight but feck me there was a spoons across the road so over we went
Pint ,large VAT £13 then go for another round and order the food , two steaks with jacket potatoes for under £25 ? They are almost giving the grub away ,well a fiver each . Spoons all the way for me !
