The Health Secretary has told NHS chiefs to stop “promoting woke ideology” as £13 million is still being spent on NHS diversity tsars despite his clamp down on such jobs. Steve Barclay’s team has condemned new revelations that equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) roles at trusts across the country are still costing the taxpayer vast sums. He wrote to the chairmen of England’s integrated care boards in October demanding that they stop “actively recruiting” into EDI roles and “move resources from the back office to the front line”, the latest in a series of warnings to health bosses. But The Telegraph can reveal that at least £13,586,636 is being spent on 336 diversity roles at 111 trusts. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/11/11/nhs-chief-told-stop-promoting-woke-ideology-13-million-year/This is just the NHS, I wonder what the EDI or woke bill is for the whole country? It must run into many £billions.

I suspect that the Telegraph's figure of 3 diversity wallahs per NHS trust is a dramatic understatement, and that the real figure is very much larger. NHS trusts and other operators have a very strong motivation to understate the number of staff in such roles and many of them will have been remustered as 'outreach coordinators' and 'community cohesion facilitators' or somesuch.
The real numbers must be in the tens if not hundreds of thousands of such parasites burrowing away at the foundations of society.

"This is just the NHS, I wonder what the EDI or woke bill is for the whole country? It must run into many £billions." For the Public Sector alone EDI costs the taxpayer £500M a year. Personally I'm failing to see any benefit from that investment.

Personally I'm failing to see any benefit from that investment. It's a totally negative "benefit". The busybodies are distracting the rest of them from concentrating on their job.

We've got somebody whose job it is to offer "lunch and be brainwashed" sessions in all manner of worry.
Today it's 'neurodivergency awareness day' apparently.
The only issue I have is when they start making attendance at her little sessions mandatory training.

Personally I'm failing to see any benefit from that investment. I may be wrong but public bodies have no choice but to operate some form of system as it is defined in the Equality Act 2010 as the Equality Duty So until politicians change the law the NHS and other public bodies will just have to carry on. The politicians have to act first and we know how that has become so difficult for them.

The politicians have to act first and we know how that has become so difficult for them. Yes it's true. The Equality Act places a number of statutory duties on every one of the 50,000-odd public authorities amongst which is the duty to promote racial equality. Such authorities range from the NHS to the smallest parish council.
At the time the Equality Act was going through Parliament, in the dog-days of the NuLabor regime, an article by Minette Marrin in The Times provided an assessment of the practical impact that the legislation was likely to have in the real world:
...
One’s head aches at the thought of all the tedious, repetitive reading and writing and discussion involved for countless men and women, not to mention the incessant meetings. The cost is not merely astronomical – it is infinite. [/quote] And so it has come to pass. [/div]

You can only keep making up jobs for so long before you have more bureaucrats than actual working staff. It reminds of the government Ministerial appointments of funny walks, where Mrs. Thatcher and her government avoided looking like they were handing out pay rises while the rest of the country was suffering dire consequences, decided instead to make up tons of ministerial and junior posts so they got better pay, nobody actually had a clue what they were supposed to be doing but they got more pay and expenses for doing it. Which incidentally has carried on ever since. The NHS just being another recipient. The Blair government were doing the same thing in councils making up jobs for university leavers without a clue what they could do with a pointless degree. Which is why we came up with idea of returning people to being apprentices before any future industry was already crippled, which Cameron took onboard for a while but soon made it a political issue rather than a vocation.

It seems to be their preferred method of indoctrination these days, most likely because it gets in under the brainwashing detector radar.
