I rang the twats up the other week and was kept on hold for 120 minutes, and when I did get through they were about as useless as a torch with no batteries.

The UK is only going to get worse, throw in the towel now before your houses and neighbourhoods are worthless.
Those property London millionaire investors should start crapping their pants, by the time the Wild West London no-go areas have finished their million £ properties will be squats.

Well true fairy, but by your own admission, you like to approach all problems with an open mouth, which may make you the star attraction in the saloon bar of the Dog and Duck, but is not so good for getting tax refund.
Most of the staff on helplines are just kids reading off scripts. They have limited experience or authority, so can't help much. The best approach is to write a letter. This means that HMRC have the time to examine the case carefully and seek advice if they get stuck. Send the letter by snail post, not email. It is also easier if you wish to send a copy to your MP
