They were care home kids, ironically ones that no one actually cared for: The problem kids, the young criminals, the pain in the backside to everyone that dealt with them. That's why they were preyed upon. Because they were disengaged. Because no one cared. Because they wouldn't talk to the authorities. Because they couldn't be helped and wouldn't help themselves. And because of all that, no one was looking.
They were the kids that fell through the gaps in society. And the instruments of society - the police and social services, did not have the mechanisms in place to deal with it.
And the grooming gangs recognised that. |
