It's also used for the crimes of thought, for the crimes of political dissent, for the crimes of free expression.
Basically anything the dictatorship does not like, they either throw you into a concentration camp and torture you, or they murder you.
It's absurd to try to defend this insanity after so many millions have been killed off by it.
You are just talking out of your arse. You have no backup for what you claim. It's not any old political dissidents who get the big trouble. It's those found to be working for foreign powers. They have probably got a few CIA agents in the cells. Death penalty as far as I know is murder, large amounts of drugs and serious corruption, e.g. working for the state government and large scale embezzlement. If you are a normal citizen, apparently the thing that pisses them off most are those cameras where they give instant fines for jaywalking or if you cross a red light. Most people never see a policeman if they are living out of the main cities, but the cameras still get them. it's a bit like this country but like it debits your account instantly.
You are actually allowed political protests in China. It will generally cross the line though if you are causing a disturbance or severely dishonouring the government, like you would probably get a talking to if you went on like you do in a public place. However you may get protests aimed at company who ripped the workers off say, an that is allowed, as were the protests regarding covid when they were locked up. The police only intervened when some women went crazy and started screaming. Even if that happens the police will tell you to calm down and if you then cooperate they will be perfectly OK. It's only if you refuse and act like as asshole that they may throw you in the back of a van and take you down to the station. Another thing is they are not trigger happy about prosecuting everyone who goes too far. They offer tea with a policeman who will chat to you and find out your problems and try and resolve it. The whole idea of the police over there is they are the people's police. everything they do is in service of the people, so the police make decisions so it is best all round. You go doing what JSO do and the police would be right onto you as it is screwing other people's lives. No harm no crime. They are extremely efficient though. A friend of mine tried to smuggle a lighter past them when you were not suppose to have them on you and he got caught. He managed OK.
