Let's get this straight every single person who 'legally' lives in the UK is 'British', their passport, their driving licence, ever form of their ID will say 'British' citizen.
Every area in the UK is British, is this council saying areas in the UK are now no-go segregated areas only?
If so there is a clear law that makes it illegal.
"Award-winning fish and chip shop is ordered to remove Union flag mural by council officials 'because it's inappropriate for the area'
Chris Kanizi, 65, has vowed to keep the mural up as long as possible"

I did wonder if this would come up on the boards
I live in a National Park, and even outside of the National Park, some of the towns and villages fall within "Conservation Areas".
If anyone painted a mural on ANY building either within the National Park or in any Conservation Area, it would attract the attention of planning officers. A mural on a building inside a National Park would almost certainly be ordered to be removed, a mural in a "Conservation Area" could very well be deemed as been "Not In Keeping" or "Inappropriate" and could be ordered to be removed.
The fact that the mural is a Union Flag has no bearing on the issue what so ever
Greenwich is a historical part of London, and Devonshire Place and surroundings are mostly Victorian, with some Art Deco buildings, there are ancient buildings close by, including historical monuments. It is not an area which could be described as "Over Commercialised", there are no other such hordings, murals or even billboards.
If businesses painted such murals on the walls of my village, or in the nearby market towns, I would want to see the planning officers demand they be removed.

Ok here's the facts The painting declared that fish and chips is a great British meal The council say it is an 'unauthorised' advertisement for the shop. I don't see the explicit connectionyself BUT... . ALL retail premises carry planning permission for a flagpole affixed to the building providing no flag reaches down far enough to obstruct traffic or passers by. So Fit a flagpole to the building sticking out over the pavement, have a flag made to contain this image and fly it from the pole hanging down as if a curtain. Job done ✅

I was watching Talk TV and it was their phone in, one caller said he applied for a job and on the application he put his was 'English'.
They said 'sorry you can't say you are 'English', we'll put 'British', he said he was fuming and said ....... "so if I ask you what language is spoken in Britain what would you say"? ....... they said 'English' .... FFS this woke snowflake diversity has gone completely off the scale.

I watched the owner being interviewed, he is a Greek Cypriot from the north side, came here in the late 70s and has a delightful Greek/cockney accent. He should festoon the place with flags, in his windows, from the drain pipes, everywhere.

The Union Flag, or Union Jack, is the national flag of the United Kingdom. It is so called because it combines the crosses of the three countries united under one Sovereign - the kingdoms of England and Wales, of Scotland and of Ireland (although since 1921 only Northern Ireland has been part of the United Kingdom).

That argument would hold more weight if the property in question had not always had advertising signs plastered over it. 1940

The fact that the mural is a Union Flag has no bearing on the issue what so ever... I agree. Years ago I owned a business and had to get planning permission to put up a relatively small sign (and nothing to do with union flags or Britishness). That argument would hold more weight if the property in question had not always had advertising signs plastered over it. 1940 But that is also an excellent point. I wonder if the chip shop owner could claim some kind of grandfather rights.

Why do you think it's not like that anymore
