Rishi Sunak sets out plans to build gas power stations 'to stop blackouts on cloudy, windless days'Ministers will today unveil plans for a new generation of gas-fired power stations to avert the 'genuine prospect of blackouts' in the dash for net zero. In a move that will anger environmental campaigners, Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho will say Britain needs to be 'realistic', and insist new gas plants are needed to keep the lights on when output from renewable sources dips - According to National Grid, gas was producing more than 52 per cent of the UK's energy at 6pm yesterday, while renewables contributed less than 13 per cent. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13184837/Rishi-Sunak-sets-plans-build-gas-power-stations-stop-blackouts-cloudy-windless-days.htmlEach day it becomes more and more obvious that net zero is unachievable without damaging the economy and making people poorer.

I dont think they will ever go ahead, its too late now for the Tories to start anything, I hope that any new government will cancel them.

I dont think they will ever go ahead, its too late now for the Tories to start anything, I hope that any new government will cancel them. If they do not go ahead then many in the winters to come will be suffering blackouts and restrictions on electric use. Probably excess deaths of the elderly and the vulnerable. Net zero has a price to pay if it is sought with dogmatism.

The net zero zealots plan to make Winters cold and dark merely to give them a warm fuzzy glow has taken a setback .

They should at the very least be replaced with gas powered power plants which have Carbon Capture Technology.
This is yet another of many U Turns by this government on Green Energy, and its abandonment of its earlier announced intention to have a "nett zero grid by 2035".
These new gas powered electricity generators COULD be fitted with Carbon Removal Technology, but the government is to allow them to be built without the technology.
Proof, that this government is not serious about cleaner, greener, renewables.

Renewable ,Green power doesn't cover our needs yet and Im not sure it ever will . Makes sense , the only sense ,to have a mixture of power supplies for the country . Personally I think 'net zero' is a vision much like the end of the rainbow , you can see it but you will never get there .

Historically the CO2 has been used to boost oil production but I thought we were supposed to be running that down. CCT is also expensive and doesn't work very well - its another example of a 'green' technology that is overhyped before the technology is generally available and working.
