Steptoe and Son won't have the facilities or the know-how to recycle Li-ion batteries. It's a job for specialists.

I can see a lot of these Li-ion batteries ending up in landfill - especially the smaller bike and scooter batteries. That's very bad news when they start leaching rare metals into the water table.
I looked at my local Porsche dealer and they had 12 2024 Taycans in stock. It's only a small dealership so it looks like they're not shifting them. The only other new cars were a few very high end 911s. There were no other new models in stock.

No doubt a lot of those already do, especially those from cheap Chinese-made power tools.

Aston Martin has delayed the launch of its first electric car as the luxury marque’s chairman admitted that drivers want a petrol engine. The luxury car maker had originally aimed to launch an electric four-wheel drive grand tourer as soon as next year but will now hold off until 2026 - link Bentley and Stellantis (Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroen) are also among a growing number of automakers to change, delay or cancel ambitious EV plans as global adoption grows slower than expected. I suspect Mrs R and I are safe hanging onto our reliable, efficient and above all, environmentally friendly (Compared to EV's) diesels.

Sales are falling for EV's - seems the only people buying them now are tax avoiders...

Presumably that means that Aston Martin will be fined £15k for every new car they sell this year. I suppose that's not such a deal breaker as it is for most car manufacturers. And Porsche actually have a pure electric car (Taycan) but it's not doing them much good because they can't sell it.
I can see the likes of Porsche and Aston Martin introducing a small, relatively cheap, pure electric car to avoid the fines - a bit like Aston Martin rebadged a Toyota and called it an Aston Martin Cygnet to get round the average mpg rules. Maybe Porsche will introduce a Porsche Up!, like the VW but with different badges and leather upholstery.

£80,000 electric Jaguar rammed off road after brakes fail at 100mphA driver sped down a motorway at 100mph for 35 minutes without any brakes after his electric Jaguar I-Pace malfunctioned. Nathan Owen, 31, was travelling on the M62 yesterday when the brakes on his £80,000 car began to fail – for the second time in three months. The crisis support worker was forced to weave between traffic without braking for more than half an hour until the electric vehicle began to run out of power (After half an hour lol) and police were able to force it to stop. metro.co.uk/2024/03/07/80-000-electric-jaguar-rammed-off-road-brakes-fail-100mph-20416713/?ico=mosaic_newsThen it burst into flames lol, well OK that may have been artistic licence on my part, but even the most enthusiastic supporters of EV's must agree, it doesn't look good does it. What the hell is a 'Crisis Support Worker's and how the fuck do they earn enough to afford a car costing an MP's salary ??

Steppenwolf mentioned some chap who bought a £120,000 Porsche Taycan, it maybe the same chap, but just a couple of days ago I watched a YouTube vid of someone who two years ago bought a Taycan. He was less than impressed with it (Not because it was a Porsche but because it was electric) He said planning a trip was a time consuming logistical nightmare, so he decided to chop in it for a petrol Porsche 911. Unfortunately he was in for a shock, the dealer wouldn't have it back in part ex, they just didn't want it. He contacted car buying sites and was offered as little as £28k, just two years ago he paid £120,000 for it. Like Rowan Atkinson, this chap felt duped. sounds like I ditched my Nissan Leaf (making a 20% profit) at just tbe right time

The head of Stellantis (Citroen, Opel, Peugeot, Vauxhall, among others) has warned that the Government's electric vehicle plans will kill the UK car industry, as the brand hints it may pull out of the country. Carlos Tavares, CEO of the automotive giant, has attacked the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate which orders manufacturers to have a minimum percentage of sales be electric. www.gbnews.com/lifestyle/cars/stellantis-boss-attacks-electric-car-mandateMore evidence that shows the government has a choice: Kill net zero, or kill the economy.

I suspect Mrs R and I are safe hanging onto our reliable, efficient and above all, environmentally friendly (Compared to EV's) diesels. It's the same phenomenon as when we went from vinyl to digital. The proles claimed the new digital format was somehow artificial and nothing like as good as the vinyl records. We know from scientific experiments they were talking shit because the digital was far superior in reproduction. However the explanation in this is psychological. People had grown fond of the technical defects of vinyl, and so like a noisy engine, it elicits a romantic view of the good ol days when life was simple and everything was so much more fun. It's just the way the mind has inbuilt biases so it is not entirely rational. It does not like change. Familiarity breeds love. All sorts of things have followed the same pattern, like even when the digital multimeters replaced to good ol trusty made in England AVO meter. Over here in Somerset if you go to a traditional pub you get a block of hard wood to sit on, just like it was at the medieval tavern. You pay extra for such low tech seating.

Hertz Global eyes worst day on record as EV rental business falters......... Reuters) - Shares of Hertz Global slumped 24% and were on track for their sharpest one-day percentage fall on record on Thursday after the company reported a wider-than-expected quarterly loss, highlighting its struggles with the EV rental business. The company is slimming down the business due to weak demand, with plans to sell 10,000 more EVs, taking its total planned sales to 300,000 this year. Higher repair costs also weighed on the company's overall fleet maintenance expenses.

As Tesla struggles, Toyota hits record annual output, sales....... Toyota delivers strong results In its April 25 report, Toyota said that its parent-only global sales increased by 7.3% year-on-year to 10.31 million units, marking the first time sales have surpassed the 10 million threshold. Production also rose by 9.2% to 9.97 million units. Yet, according to the Mid Japan Economist newspaper, Toyota plans to delay the launch of its electric vehicle (EV) production in the U.S. and reduce domestic production. The decision comes as part of the company’s efforts to "ensure product safety and quality following a series of scandals at its group firms." Despite the global growth, Toyota experienced a downturn in March, particularly in China—the world’s largest auto market—where it faced intense competition. Global sales in March fell by 2.1% from the previous year to 897,251 units, and production dropped 10.3% to 807,026 units. Meanwhile, the company saw a significant increase in its global battery EV sales, which soared more than threefold to 116,654 units for the year.....

Yes but the problem is the Chinese are the hottest competition so now these Western firms are in trouble because they have all been slow to develop cars. They had the market sown up between them thanks to various protectionist measures like charging hundreds of pounds for a bit of plastic trim.
£7,694.20
Now can you see their problem?
