The Boring Budget that Backfired
Hunt’s budget backfires as twice as many voters say taxes will rise – poll
Labour’s lead over Tories increases to 16 points as chancellor’s plans suffer reverse of a budget bounce, according to Observer Opinium survey.
And the next major political event is The Local Elections on the 2nd May
Here's the really BIG problem for Rishi, he will lose seats at those elections, probably a lot of seats, which would then make the Tories look even more weaker and vulnerable. So does he take a gamble and go for a May 2nd General Election to cut his losses, or hope that he might turn the polling figures around. ?

It's pretty clear why most benefits are non taxable, isn't it? Why give out a benefit to claw some back in tax? Incidentally it is true to say the State Pension is generally untaxed, because it rarely breaks the tax threshold. (Bentley an exception). When people have worked for and paid in for both a state and an occupational pension they deserve to receive both. They also deserve to be taxed if their total income is above the tax threshold. That tax threshold is too low, and needs to be about £20,000 to prevent people on minimum wages paying tax. The state pension is taxable , that's an indisputable fact but is treated as a 'benefit' apparently because of how it is administered Welfare benefits (untaxed) give out a false impression between level paid and gross salary Compare a welfare sponger with lazyitis on untaxed £30000 annual benefits (no cap as invented 'disability) to a working person on a £30000 annual salary. The sponger pockets the full untaxed £30000 handout , the worker takes home £23,848 after tax annually and is continuing to fund the sponger (22/23) Using your argument , why give out state pension only to claw back some in tax? www.netsalarycalculator.co.uk/30000-after-tax/
