Labour's Shadow Culture Secretary, Thangam Debbonaire, slammed for 'political correctness' after claiming Rule Britannia 'alienates' many Britons.Tory MP Philip Davies said Debonaire's remarks are a sneak preview of the political correctness that we’d be likely to see from a Labour government, accusing her of having very little pride in Britain. He said: Rule, Britannia! is an integral part of the Last Night of the Proms. Without things like Rule Britannia, what on earth is the point of it? - link Thangam Debbonaire is the classic example of a privileged out of touch lefty. She is of Indian stock and enjoyed all the trappings of a very privileged life. Also, she changed her name by deed poll from Singh to Debbonaire, so maybe she's not so quite so proud of her heritage as I am of mine. I'd like to tell her that Rule Britannia doesn't alienate me because I'm 100% British, and proud of it.

It is a demand for Britain as an island nation to rule the oceans by way of a strong navy to protect us from Tyrants, if they are British, and we hear so much about how they are British, then they are in Brittania's domain and should be equally roused by the song to protect the home shores thorough strength at sea.

I couldn't agree more, that is not only a reasonable response but in my opinion, for anyone who is living in Great Britain it should be the required response.

Thangham Debbonaire, sound like a very obscure vehicle marque from the 1930’s “I say old bean get Jeeves to bring the debbonaire round and we can tootle off to see rusty Bingham what ho”
So whilst we’re being called nasty and racist on another thread regards militant Islam I read the c of e want to raise the £100 million earmarked as an apology for slavery to one £ billion from the remaining handful
I was never a fan of privatisation of things like the utilities but I think the lords pastoral should be given the heave ho and the approx £7 billion in assets of the church shared amongst the populace because they are bloody useless pretty much like thangham and co who would have us all in sackcloth and ashes.

When people say our culture is not under threat from immigration, point them to Ms Debonnaire née Singh.

It’s a rousing song and deserves to be sung by people enjoying themselves. But it seems a pity that pride for so many is based on the achievements of people born a century or more ago…

I had it in mind perhaps it is more a piece of 70s tableware to go with the Martini, as per "Oh darling would you be so kind as to pass us the Thangham Debbonaire." crunch clinck chink...

It’s a rousing song and deserves to be sung by people enjoying themselves. But it seems a pity that pride for so many is based on the achievements of people born a century or more ago… For some it is a person born 2000 years ago, or 1400 years ago, or the suffering of people over 200 years ago or the invasion of their country 700 years ago, or 200 years ago. Yesterday stretches to the far horizon dependant on what happened and how important one believes it to be. The song is an instruction to ensure freedom that many now enjoy with yourself being a happy recipient; so sing along with gusto.

Geopolitically inaccurate for more than a hundred years but if it keeps the Little Englanders happy to hear it once a year at the Proms then fill your jingoistic little boots. If that twat Trump gets back in and withdraws from NATO as he threatens we'll need all the patriotic rot we can muster to rebuild the RN to a point where it can actually stand on its own two feet (do navies have feet?).
