It's not that we've left the EU. It's the supermarkets not paying them enough for what they produce.
The supermarkets have raised prices for customers. They haven't given farmers more. Take eggs as an example. There are enough eggs being produced but farmers want more than supermarkets are offering. Same with milk.

If the supermarkets did buy the eggs at 40p more for a dozen . How much more will eggs cost has greedy supermarkets push up profits.
I buy my food from local shops and even travel to a farmers market for my eggs and meat its a 22miles distance. I travel

There are a number of ‘independent’ butchers shops in the suburbs and nearby small towns. All seem to have been set up by the relative of a nearby farmer and all claim they started to sell the farms stuff instead of taking the hit Sainsbury’s etc etc demanded. So the big boys have been throttling producers for a while.
They’ve all been going years and they do some nice stuff. And I’ve seen no obvious reduction in eggs or cheese on their shelves. It’s not a huge distance to two of the nearest three.

Bird flu has reduced the supply of eggs so they are not able to keep up with demand. Do you think farmers are just keeping the eggs because they can't get the price they want?

He fails to mention how many of the 8 million shortage in orders for new hens is due to producers not wanting to risk losing their flocks due to bird flu.

He fails to mention how many of the 8 million shortage in orders for new hens is due to producers not wanting to risk losing their flocks due to bird flu. well then he should be outed by the mass media as a liar. I’ve seen at least one farmer given airtime to whinge the big supermarket chains aren’t paying enough. I’ve was at one of the local independents I spoke of yesterday and I noted they had no egg shortage. I asked how he was doing for supplies and said ‘ok at the moment, we buy direct from the farm’ It was amusing before the pox hit this chap had asked for christmas poultry orders months earlier and I’d put my order in for a turkey crown and my request was added to the list so the farmer knew he many eggs needed to hatch … yes, that level of preparation. Vome the Wednesday before Christmas I went to collect it and Some guy breezed in the shop asking for a ‘fresh’ as opposed to frozen turkey and had to be told ‘sorry sir, all ours were done in a pre-order basis’. He wasn’t happy …. Yet what did he expect ??

Must admit I have not noticed any egg shortage - but then I dont buy from the large supermarkets. We have now increased the amount of eggs imported from the EU. As much as 30% of our eggs are now imported. A doubling of the usual 15%.

The food products what seen the biggest increase in inflation are milk cheese and eggs .
With the farmers asking £2.00 a dozen is retail price .
