The latest immigration statistics for the year ending December 2023 have been released today.
The change from the previous year (ending 12/22) for each of the major categories was as follows (all categories include dependents):
Work: 616,000 (+47%) Study: 601,000 (-3%) Family: 98,000 (+20%) Humanitarian: 168,000 (-49%) Overall immigration for 2023 was 1,483,000, a 1% increase from 2022.
The largest increase was in the Work category where the number of migrants and dependents entering on Health and Care visas was up 350%.
The large decrease in Humanitarian is mainly due to a large fall in numbers of Ukrainians (-182,000). On the other hand, the number of asylum seekers granted refugee status increased from 18,000 in 2022 to 62,000 in 2023 a consequence, no doubt, of the backlog clearance exercise aka Rishi's Stealth Amnesty.

To be honest I would not have been shocked had the numbers been doubled . They lost control of our borders years ago

I do wish they would stop putting 'asylum' into every sentence when they talk about boat people . These people are illegal immigrants and while this country has a proud record of being a safe harbour for genuine asylum seekers these people aren't it .

I was just reading this article...Its good to see the UK's excuse for a government have got their priorities in order.
Anger as the RAF retires 30 'quick reaction alert' Typhoon jets used to protect Britain from potential attacks by Putin...
And there are now rumours that our strapped for cash RN are making plans to flog our new aircraft carrier.

Between 2018 and 2023 115,000 arrived in small boats; 98% of them are still here.
The 2,800 or so who have been removed were mostly returned in the last year under the bi-lateral agreement with Albania.

Yes there seems to be a few of these stories about cutbacks in defence ,this one about retiring the older version of the Typhoon has been going on since 2011 with numerous decisions to chop it followed by reprieves .The updated versions are apparently a far superior aircraft (as you would expect) and it shouldn't just be about numbers but capability . The MOD have denied the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales is to be sold

How can anyone be both pro-immigration and worried about the climate change since if the latter then you"d be against any form of increase of the population?

It's called cognitive dissonance, a psychological condition which arises when a person holds two contradictory beliefs at the same time.

I think the label 'fraudsters' describes them most accurately
