A tale of an Oxford flirt and an Iranian businessman

It's an odd one, but every now and again the highly socialist Channel 4 News comes up with an interesting report, even if they are doing their utmost to tell you how to think about it. We have the classic duel between the rich non-taxpaying foreign banker seeking corrupt political influence and the oh so lovely Oxford girl and her great moral standing as an MP of the British parliament being devoured by dodgy lawyers.

I jest of course. I don't believe a damn word of the narrative, as they call it. Even though this is what they paint it as, I came to the opposite conclusion. I can't find any wrongdoing of the Iranian businessman and having listened to both sides I came away thinking this chap is not only telling the truth but he is upset. It is true he is very rich, but he is also heavily involved in philanthropy. Some people are like this. They actually care and have so much money they can't spend it all themselves on their own luxuries. They want to use it for something meaningful. So he starts getting to know the Conservative Party and what kind of lady MPs of high moral standing it is composed of.

Now this is where I appreciate Channel Four for doing the legwork for us. If you watch the following clip there is a private investigator's report on the MP and what she has been up to. They flash it on the screen quickly, but I advise you freeze-frame it and read as much as you can, and you will see a completely different side to this woman. It is a wonderful snapshot of how this game works on a social level, and how MPs make a few tens of thousands of pounds on the side, and even how British judges will protect them in court. No doubt the judge was one of the Oxford old boys as well.

As you can see, he has been very active in business and is very well qualified, so nothing there really suggests he has done anything other than earnt it all legitimately, and in addition you can see he has been involved in a lot of charity work. I used to know a guy like him who was one of the richest people in the country, but gave nearly everything he made to charity.
