Macron's close ally calls for Britain to have "deeper defense partnership" with the rest of Europe if Trump is re-lected. The French certainly know which side their butter is spread, both historically speaking and currently when it comes to depending on the British for support. I would give the french a two fingered salute and tell them to get their own member states into action. They've been waving illegals off their shores to us for years, they can get knotted. And we all know what it means when it says "partnership", aka subordinate whose military expertise can be used at a whim. Currently, there are so many things wrong with the EU that by the time they ever took action to respond to a war of say Putin's making, or even their own making European citizens would be running around like headless chickens fighting the other with their broomsticks. I would never want to see a British soldier commanded by a French general. www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/16/uk-must-deepen-europe-defence-ties-in-face-of-trump-threat-says-macron-ally

My god Buccaneer, i havent heard that term" get knotted" since i was a child in the 60s. It was very common, and a polite way of saying eff off. I must start using it. As you say, the Franch must be told to get knotted, even the Americans, I would take the attitude of wots is name in the Star Wars film, the first one, he would not take sides, but rescued the day in the end.
We should be in reserve, make sure that the right side wins.
