There's no definite indication that the council is prioritising asylum seekers over others, but it is giving a reason for its current increased need.
Admittedly, the letter could have been better written — on the other hand, perhaps it got the response that was intended from the Conservative client media... It's just winding people up, how do you think homeless veterans, vulnerable, and families are going to feel who have lived here all their lives and more often that not especially under the section 21 notice where landlords can just boot people out of their properties for no apparent reason, how do you think they are going to react when they see letters like that. I don't disagree. But there's a whole raft of improvements needed in the housing area, from easing building legislation, making renting more fair for both landlord and tenant, to clamping down on associated dodgy investment in vacant properties.
And badly worded and insensitive official communications don't help.
There's over one million empty properties in England alone. At the end of 2023, there were more than 300,000 people without a home. Most of those are families, so even if 5% or 10% of these empty properties were turned into family dwellings, it could halve the problem (if my maths and assumptions are right)...

The mails slant on this isn’t the problem, the problem is that the council are prioritising asylum seekers over those who already live here. There's no definite indication that the council is prioritising asylum seekers over others, but it is giving a reason for its current increased need.

There’s a definite indication they want the property for asylum seekers and no indication they are prioritising people who already live here.

That link is a separate issue, the actually letter in question that these old folk got specified for priority 'Asylum seekers' Ukraine and Afghans, they did not mention homeless UK veterans or vulnerable or families, the devil is in the detail.

There’s a definite indication they want the property for asylum seekers and no indication they are prioritising people who already live here. It's a badly written letter. I suggest your interpretation is based on your own views.
I don't doubt the council has problems finding accommodation for local people. But just because procedures aren't explicitly identified in this particular letter doesn't mean they don't exist, as the following shows:...
If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless within the next 56 days, please contact Housing Options on 0300 126 3000. We offer free information and advice to anyone who is homeless or worried about becoming homeless.
We will give you advice based on your personal circumstances.
We can let you know what support is available to help you to stay in your own home. If that is not an option, then we can offer you help to find a different home.
Please see the sections below for more specialist advice dependent on your circumstances.
Whilst North Northamptonshire Council manages the Keyways housing register for applicants interested in accessing council and housing association properties to rent, there is a high demand for affordable housing in North Northamptonshire which cannot be fully met from available properties through the housing register. This means that customers with a housing need should also explore alternative housing options.

Then your interpretation is that because they failed to mention the above info in the cited letter is just “it’s badly worded” whilst I think otherwise. As a matter of interest Pat what do you think my views are based on?

It's a badly written letter. I suggest your interpretation is based on your own views... Hardly. I'd say that the council letter is extremely specific.

Yet another clickbait outrage story with a headline that in no way represents the story.
Pathetic again.

Yet another clickbait outrage story with a headline that in no way represents the story. Pathetic again. So the council never sent this old couple a letter (by mistake) , and the letter never specified they were after that house to give to Asylum seekers and Ukraine Afghan refugees? It's all a figment of our imagination, the old couple made the letter up, it's yet another attempt by the lefties to try to cover up the woke nonsense that has taken over nearly every Council in the country, I'm only surprised the letter was so open, it's a wonder we didn't get the 'we need the homes for our homeless', to actually specify who they wanted the houses for they will probably regret it now.

The letter could not be interpreted as trying to force the homeowners to sell - that was a lie The letter was not strongly worded - that was a lie It is unlikely the couple involved were "horrified" - that was a lie The headline was designed to force outrage junkies that the council was bullying old and vulnerable people out of their homes -that was a lie.
Lie lie lie clickbait lie.

They must of been concerned enough to be standing there holding the said letter, how many times have you felt the need to bring a council letter to the attention of the media? I haven't yet, wonder if any other poster has?

The motivations of the elderly couple can only be speculated on The motivations of the "newspaper" are crystal clear.

Lie lie lie clickbait lie. Shouting lie lie lie doesn’t make it so,it’s already been pointed out that the mail take on this is a side issue. The facts are that there are homeless people on the streets of this country, that there are people unable to afford the rents asked or being booted on the street in no fault evictions. There are also veterans who served this country suffering mental health issues living rough, now what is being pointed out is that the letter sent specifically states that the property is required for asylum seekers and there is no mention of the people cited above. People rocking up here are being housed in hotels all found, some when given asylum and told to find accommodation are demanding houses with gardens, meanwhile whilst all those listed are struggling there’s criticism that accommodation like the bibby Stockholm where there’s free heat, light food education and transport is disgraceful, really? We have always accepted genuine asylum seekers but we are suffering an increasing flow of people with no checks and free to roam the country, why do you imagine what were once liberal strongholds in Europe are kicking against this, why are people who express such concerns described as racist?
