Whoever said they wanted that? I'm not sure that the police (or more pertinently, their political masters) give any consideration to that these days.
There's a whole raft of agenda at play and sadly none of them include the safety, nor indeed any consideration of, the general public.
I think that applies to the higher echelons and the quoted political masters, the whole thing is going in the wrong direction and not just down to this single issue. Positive discrimination is something that’s become anything but because it’s alienating large sections of the population. Until we reach the point where people are judged for who they are and what they do rather than what they are it won’t improve,I’ll not be holding my breath for a change. What do you think of my post about it.taking six weeks to identify a suspected acid attack road rage.incident Don't you think he posed a danger to.the public.

FFS I wonder how often we have to go over this ground. In this case it was around 830 at night in February in a probable quiet area with the victim attacked from behind. It is unlikely the victim would be able to describe the attacker. Not to worry though because the police will have numerous sources of CCTV to go through from the broad area. It takes a little time but they will pretty soon have some image of what the attacker looks like. Then we get three possibilities 1) they know who he is and are pretty confident they will catch him without public help. On this case they have no reason to release his image ( they will almost never issue a vague description) 2) they know who he is but don’t think they will find him quickly - in which case they will attempt to get a good photo image from family or friends and only release a cctv image if they can’t 3) they don’t know who he is - in which case they may well issue the best cctv image they can find to get info. There is no benefit for the public to get a vague description - 6ft 2in white guy with average length brown hair wearing a blue shirt especially for the vast majority of the public who have never been to say Ramsgate. The sole benefit in releasing such a description is for the racists to decide whether to be outraged by this case or not to be overly bothered. That assumes everybody bothered by this is racist, clearly that’s not the case it was always the way that descriptions were issued, now so often they’re not which instead of lessening any reaction it increases it

This photo and description was released six weeks after the Attack in London. Six weeks after a teenage girl and a woman were squirted with sulphuric acid by a man in a white van, he remains on the run. Scotland Yard have now released an e-filt image of the suspected attacker. The suspect is described as a white man, around 40 years old of chubby build, with ginger/grey hair and beard, and brown eyes. At the time of the offence, he was wearing a black jumper. Even after so long the description was given. Evening Standard www.standard.co.uk › crime Police hunt white van driver who threw acid at woman and teenage ... 20 May 2019 — Police are hunting for a white van driver who threw sulphuric acid at a woman and a teenage girl in a suspected road rage attack Afraid that link doesn’t take you to that story.

The trouble with that dappy is that cctv has been around a lot longer than this has been happening, you do know we are one of earths most watched nations second only to China?

CCTV has only really become ubiquitous in recent years.
Why do you think police prefer to issue cctv photographs rather than wordy descriptions?
Take your time…..

CCTV has been around a long time in the uk by police starting in the 60’s recent years? And facial recognition Indeed. I believe CCTV goes back well before the 60s. But recent years have seen massive increases in both the volume of cameras available and their quality. Hence now more often than not the police are able to issue a CCTV image of the suspect within a relatively short time if they require the publics help to identify/apprehend an offender. Would you like to try to answer the question now?

Really?
So you think the police's move to preferring to issue CCTV pictures of suspects rather than word descriptions now that technology allows often very high quality images is down to reluctance to identify race of suspect (even though the picture does exactly that) rather than simply because a picture does the job far better than words.
OK....

I didn’t say that, you (above) have drawn your own conclusions,I presented evidence that that cctv has been around long enough with sufficient numbers and quality for your argument to hold water. There are people and not just on here have noticed that there have been cases where neither images nor descriptions have been issued and this has been a recent phenomena.

There are people and not just on here have noticed that there have been cases where neither images nor descriptions have been issued and this has been a recent phenomena. The police have always only asked for the public's help when they need the public's help. Now as CCTV images are better quality and more available when they do it will nearly always be a CCTV image rather than a wordy description or Photofit image. Nothing has changed apart from too many people allowing themselves to be conditioned by their political tribe to believe that are numerous establishment forces all trying to do them down. Populism has adopted Kenneth Williams.
