Breaking, should the media be forced to give descriptions

This is the dramatic moment police tasered an 'acid attacker' on a bus after reports he was 'threatening the driver and bus passengers with an unknown substance'.

Emergency services - including workers in chemical suits - stormed the 109 bus when it stopped outside homes in Croydon at 8.30pm last night.

Reports claim a man, 44, boarded the bus in Brixton and started smoking, before he took out a bottle, reportedly containing a 'substance', which alarmed passengers.

Armed police surrounded the bus and asked members of the public to move away and stand back.

Well if the victim had no idea eg they were attacked from behind then it is understandable,however people are concerned  that increasingly it appears that the identity of suspects is being withheld because they don’t want to mention the race of the suspect/s.

This is madness,if you want the cooperation and safety of the public to the fore,hiding such info is counter productive,as has been said whether white,black or anything in between then people need to know.

Victim. Might of been In a state of shoke and unable to identify the attacker.

Think it's used to many times that the police don't give identity of atracker to cover up race.


Yet they seem normally to apperrand the attacker .

Well it's now 19.42, nearly 5 hours after it was officially reported in the media,  and we don't know that information ....... you tell me.

If he were white lefty old bean we would be told how much his house is worth and how many sugars he takes in his cuppa....

FFS I wonder how often we have to go over this ground.

In this case it was around 830 at night in February in a probable quiet area with the victim attacked from behind. It is unlikely the victim would be able to describe the attacker.

Not to worry though because the police will have numerous sources of CCTV to go through from the broad area. It takes a little time but they will pretty soon have some image of what the attacker looks like.

Then we get three possibilities
1) they know who he is and are pretty confident they will catch him without public help. On this case they have no reason to release his image ( they will almost never issue a vague description)
2) they know who he is but don’t think they will find him quickly - in which case they will attempt to get a good photo image from family or friends and only release a cctv image if they can’t
3) they don’t know who he is - in which case they may well issue the best cctv image they can find to get info.

There is no benefit for the public to get a vague description - 6ft 2in white guy with average length brown hair wearing a blue shirt especially for the vast majority of the public who have never been to say Ramsgate. The sole benefit in releasing such a description is for the racists to decide whether to be outraged by this case or not to be overly bothered.
