Bloody childish.
The ancient Greeks, who spent most of their time at war with each other, used sporting events as a chance to suspend hostilities and show a little goodwill.

Indeed, very childish. I'm sure those young clueless gen Z types thought they were being incredibly virtuous.

Bad losers, really. Ireland have just been removed from Israel's Hanukah card list.

Well its obviously made the news hasn't it ?
Plus the story has made it onto these boards, therefore the event is highlighted and brought to the attention of the general public. Therefore the gesture of refusing to shake hands with Israeli athletes has had the desired effect.
Many in the West are disgusted by the actions of Israel, including many Western governments, even Joe Biden is uncomfortable with what is normally America's number 1 ally.
My own point of view is that the IDF are no better than what the Russians have done in Ukraine, there are clearly many breeches of international law, the IDF have broken the rules of the Geneva Convention, committed war crimes.
People in Gazza are now eating Animal Feed, little wonder that the world has turned against them

Irelands attitude to israel has nothing to do with Gaza - antisemitism has always run large in Irish society. Remember that Ireland was the only country to send condolences to Germany on the death of Hitler and the treatment of their own citizens who returned after fighting in the British Army to defeat fascism was a disgrace.

Any sportsman refusing to shake hands with their opponents for political reasons is a bit pathetic. That certainly applies in this case. It applied too in the case of tennis players refusing to shake hands with Russian tennis players. Most pathetic of all surely is the Government putting pressure on Wimbledon to ban tennis palyers who happened to be Russian as part of a virtue signalling Tabloid PR campaign.

The Israelis are fighting a war against people who invaded their country and imposed a genocidal purposeful slaughter of civilians of all ages, including women and children. What is happening in Gaza certainly needs to be stopped, but it is wrong to compare Israel to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A shameful act by the Irish, so sad that it has happened.

Good news from Ireland though: In a referendum where the definition of marriage and family was proposed to be changed with some woke-shit the no-vote won the biggest majority in the history of Irish referenda.
If the politicians could have decided it without a referendum what do you think would have been the outcome?

The Israeli basketball team is hardly likely to be the blame for the way the Israeli government conducts itself. If anything, a shake of hands would probably be treated as not apportioning blame on them for their government.
