I generally skim over Dub's references to the CIA monitoring our intellectual musings, supposing that since I can hardly be bothered to read what I write, why on earth would people be paid to do so? But on the other hand, I can sort of envisage some vast soulless open-plan office in a sub-sub-basement at Langley, full of the sort of civil servants who count the seconds to the merciful release of either retirement or death, where sites like this one are actually taken seriously.
Grey-faced, grey-suited semi-humans plough through our burblings to fill in a form on their 6-monthly inspection:
Conspiracy nuts..... Low
Blowhards............. Medium-high
Recommend.......... Monitor again in 6 months.
Is this realistic?

I briefly used a VPN … but don’t bother now … can’t afford it … and I don’t trawl dodgy websites or associate with extremists … so what you see is what you get with me … sifting sources anyone can access … what can they do? … besides watch and sift data that won’t secure any prosecution to shut any of our protests up. … So they pull Forums and we pop up elsewhere and start again … reposting the same. Looks like Tinculin has been recalled to America early … looks like the CIA is going to have to rethink their control of this Forum …. It’s already too much of a ‘handful’ for them … The new narratives are better written and getting major traffic already … Maybe one day they will look in the mirror … and decide to top themselves … instead of pulling Forums and destroying the World? It is heavily rumoured that GCHQ can turn on any smart phone microphone to eavesdrop on anyone.
If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear, they say, but it fails to take into account that something perfectly lawful now, could be unlawful in the future. It's a concern.

They have the means to tap phones, monitor internet traffic, emails etc, mobile phones.
A smartphone can be used to bug you and listen to you without your knowlege.
Back in the 1990's they had the means to listen in on 100,000 phone calls a minute, that was 30 years ago.

My phone is certainly smarter than me, but it isn't technically a "smart phone". It depends on what you mean by ‘being watched’
If you mean ‘is some machine being force fed your shitty postings to look for red flags’ I would say possibly, although I suspect far more ‘interesting’ forums than this one and its predecessor(s) are far higher on the watch list.
If you mean are some actual humans involved as per an earlier post I would suggest only if you started posting ‘kill them, kill them all’ with suitable hooks as to who and why. I may be wrong and I am happy to be corrected but as above I really do think there are other more worrying discussion sites.
As for me personally well I’ve been a lifelong fan of the death penalty and the intelligence services were told of my intent to stand for parliament and who for while I was still vetted and they didn’t take it away then but now I’ve admitted I once was publicly I’ll never be again - so they will just say ‘it’s that mad bastard from Newport again. Ignore him we’ve got his prints and dna in fine from the tape, murder and arson case anyway’.
