Anything has got to be better than this government The point is that Starmer has not broken any manifesto promises or pledges because he's never won a general election, but the Conservatives have. I can accept an opposition party changing or altering a policy, but I cannot accept a government which was elected upon a set of proposals within a manifesto, and then broke those promises. The Labour leader is still committed to green energy, and will still invest in green energy, but not to the originally proposed tune of £28 Billion. Three reasons, firstly because of the very tight fiscal situation ( low growth etc ), secondly because there may be other immediate priorities such as the NHS and public services, and thirdly because he perhaps wants to make his promises water tight from the Tory media and Conservatives who will stop at nothing to tear apart spending pledges. The choice at the ballot box is either more of the same, or someone different, and I think most people have decided. Interesting choice of words - yes Starmer will offer someone different, whether anyone will notice any actual policy differences is moot. But I agree - most people have already made up their minds.

But I agree - most people have already made up their minds. Quite probably true, I don't think it's impossible for the Tories to improve their current polling, but I don't see where they are going to do it. I think that they were pinning their hopes on a tax cut, but it looks both unaffordable and probably not the boost they want when public services are falling apart.
