A former minister resigned from his job because he could no longer afford his mortgage. Tory MP George Freeman claimed in a blog post that rising mortgage rates contributed to his decision to leave his job as a science minister last November. In his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Freeman said that he wanted to “focus on my health, family wellbeing and life beyond the front bench”. However, Mr Freeman’s blog post on Friday states that his mortgage payments rose this month from £800 a month to £2,000, which he “simply couldn’t afford to pay on a ministerial salary”. Ministers of state are paid £31,680 a year, on top of a standard MP’s salary of £86,584. MPs in the Government are barred from taking on second jobs outside politics to supplement their income, but Mr Freeman is now free to do so as a backbencher - so hopefully he wont starve. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/01/29/former-science-minister-quit-could-not-afford-mortgage/You may have thought that someone on a salary of £120,000 would have had more sense than to publicly moan about being unable to afford a mortgage. It does make you wonder what planet some politicians are on.

He got taken to the cleaners by the wife during the divorce so he has a rather large child support bill to pay.

He got taken to the cleaners by the wife during the divorce so he has a rather large child support bill to pay. Yes so I belive. Not a very good look though is it. A politician on £120,000 claiming he cant afford a mortgage. I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people up and down the country who are earning a lot less and worrying about their mortgages will have little sympathy.

The more you earn, the more the ex missus can snatch off you . He has two options .. 1 Earn a lot more . 2 Earn a lot less . Ive never been divorced but I know a few blokes that were rinsed by their ex.
