Everyone will have to pay more tax under plans due to be announced on Thursday, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says.
Speaking to the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, he said: "I've been explicit that taxes are going to go up."
He also confirmed he would be giving details about further support for people struggling with energy bills but warned there had to be constraints on help.
But as sure as night follows day, Labour usual worn out response accused the Conservatives of making a "total mess" of the economy.
Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said Mr Hunt was choosing to tax working people, while doing "little to close tax loopholes which mean some of the wealthiest don't pay their fair share".

The Tories 'have' tanked the economy.
Truss and Kwarteng have cost the country billions and as usual the poorest will pay for it. 🥅

Tories are the party of higher taxes.
Plus:-
Higher prices
Higher inflation
Higher interest rates
Higher energy costs
Higher personal debt
Higher government debt
Higher Mortgages
Higher NHS waiting lists
Higher ambulance response times
Anything at all lower?
Sure, lower growth than any other G7 country. Worse than that, we actually have negative growth.
