Who is this “they” you’re blaming for prolonging this injustice? The UK has installed too many second-class functionaries around government to really operate as first-class nation to be emulated. It’s too vulnerable as a small island off the coast of Europe. Its only acceptable role to aim for is to try to be a useful and reliable partner for the rest of the West…

Westminster needs sorting who'd do the same in Brussels?

Who is this “they” you’re blaming for prolonging this injustice? The UK has installed too many second-class functionaries around government to really operate as first-class nation to be emulated. It’s too vulnerable as a small island off the coast of Europe. Its only acceptable role to aim for is to try to be a useful and reliable partner for the rest of the West… We can be a reliable partner, usefulness is a two way street and being part of anything doesn’t mean we won’t rid ourselves of second class functionaries, organisations like the eu have all too many second even third class functionaries but even more remote than Westminster which was a good reason to depart. Westminster needs sorting who'd do the same in Brussels? Westminster could be sorted by voters in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales — though probably not to 100% of anyone’s satisfaction. The various EU bodies and departments are organised and operated by EU members, whose governments are also able to be changed and/or influenced by voters in their countries. Again, probably not to 100% of anyone-there’s satisfaction. But the UK, having regained its sovereignty, can now only negotiate with the EU on any issue because it’s handed back it’s veto powers on various issues it regarded as important. Of course, the UK can now capitalise on its new freedom to set up agreements and alliances with third-party countries and organisations around the globe without any EU direction. However, the UK’s future is probably less in its own hands and predictable in a world trade rodeo, than when it was a member of the large trading bloc on its doorstep…
