If he chose to resign his well paid BBC position i would have no problem. I said i had no problem with him HOLDING those views. If he were exposed as a member of the flat earth society, or perhaps were he NOT to have mouthed off in support mof illegal immigrants so no one was aware of his support of them, and it were tgen revealed he had made donations to their lawyers fund out of his BBC money i would be fighting his corner You seem to have a problem with my stance that an organisation required to be impartial ought to demand public silence on matters of contention from those it pays. Does that also apply to GBNews GB News is not funded by the taxpayer on threat of jail. If the BBC (and their employees) want to support political causes then they should become self-funding (like GB News)

Does that also apply to GBNews were 'politicians' comment on other party's policies whilst presenting their news shows? Does that also apply to the likes of David Attenborough. Lineker's money is his own and he has the 'freedom' to use it as he wants. He does not make political comments whilst he is earning his money. Several questions. Here are my responses First, while GBNews says it wants to present a wide spectrum of opinion, nowhere in its articles of association or its broadcast licence does it say they have to be impartial which is a requirement on the bbc. Any issues you claim to have about their paid or unpaid broadcasters are therefore void. Secondly no part of GBNews’ output is paid from tax taken under threat of imprisonment for non payment. If the BBC abandoned its licence fee model and made paying optional i would have no objection as i would no longer be forced to contribute to this shitbag’s salary. My problem as i reiterate is that impartiality is part of the deal by which the bbc force me to pay whether i watch tbe crap or not Yes that applies to the likes of Attenborough. And Linekers money is only his own when he has earned it by adhering to the requirements under which he was paid it. His continuing to step out of line means he is in breach of the contract undercwhich he was given tbe money the bbc took from me and he is this in breach of contract and probably a fraudster. You realky need to do better yiu’re making it much too easy for me.

The thread title is misleading here. Ofcom have not announced any such plans nor do they seemingly consider it necessary. All this story is is the Government in an election year playing its Kenneth Williams politics as a diversion from the real pressing issues. Honestly can't wait for the election to take place. John, you are not stupid, I suspect you are well aware of the litany of factual errors in your post. Opinions are fine, lets try to keep the facts right though.

If the BBC isn't left wing then how come every BBC thread is full of lefties defending it?

If the BBC isn't left wing then how come every BBC thread is full of lefties defending it? They're not really needed, with Tory ministers doing a fine job in the BBC's defence. (Albeit, unintentionally.)

The thread title is not misleading, unless you're an imbecile. The headline in the link contained in the OP starts: 'Ministers to give Ofcom powers to regulate BBC's online news coverage'... What exactly, in your opinion, is misleading about the thread title?

Ok The document to which you point refers to the need for all broadcasters to ensure ‘due’ impartiality in NEWS broadcasts. It makes reference to various statutory obligations all of which cover GBNews (and everyone else) as far as legal obligations to accuracy in NEWS broadcasts. It also makes reference to the bbc charter which applies wider restrictions to that organisation….

From the BBC Charter: Impartiality lies at the heart of public service and is the core of the BBC’s commitment to its audiences. It applies to all our output and services - television, radio, online, and in our international services and commercial magazines.
The Agreement accompanying the BBC Charter requires us to do all we can to ensure controversial subjects are treated with due impartiality in our news and other output dealing with matters of public policy or political or industrial controversy.
The external activities and public comments, for example on social media, of staff, presenters and others who contribute to our output can also affect perceptions of the BBC’s impartiality. Consequently, this section should be read in conjunction with Section 15: Conflicts of Interest.

I think you’ll find it was redrum who started diversifying into irrelevance Although as i think you will note yourself the so called BBC News website covers a whole koad of stuff not remotely ‘news’ and often hardly newsworthy and in that sense i think it useful the taxpayer funded BBC be brought to account for what it publishes with our money.

I just wonder if the furore about Lineker is not so much that he works for the BBC but more for his stance on social justice? Unsurprisingly perhaps i disagree absolutely. Lineker can believe the earth is flat and Ghengis Khan was a rabid socialist for all i care, and what is more i quite firmly believe the overwhelming majority of those present in this country prior to Blair’s deliberate destruction of its identity, and their subsequent offspring would defend with force if necessary his right to THINK that What none of us will defend however is his blatant abuse of his position as a highly paid blatherer of bollox on the ability or lack of it of various kickers of pigs bladders to mouth off in regard to his political views many of us find abhorrent and his failure to put his own resources into solutions to the problem a hypocrisy too far You mean his deliberate destruction of only having a choice between Left or Right in politics. New Labour were a breath of fresh air after decades of crap by the Conservative party, not helped that much by the Labour party.
