Bizarre the leader worship north of the border..  Yes well we are also told a load of shit about North Korea as well. It is true it is a poor county and has been taken to the cleaners by the US, but as far as the culture over there is is really weird. It's communist alright, but more of a positive form of it where it works like one big happy family. You can get some guided tours of it on youtube. Tell that to Otto Warmbier. |

As my video made clear, it is bad news to insult their leaders. That is just the way they are. They particularly dislike Americans. If you studied the history you would understand. A lot of North Koreans died via American actions. They feels the same way about Americans as you do with President Putin and his government.
As for the North Koreans themselves though, they don't look too repressed to me. You just have to play the game the way they like it.

But Otto Warmbier, an American idiot abroad, did a little prank and was murdered.
North Korean officials have been strapped to anti aircraft guns and murdered, for simply falling asleep as Kim Jong Un waffled.

Abolish devolution lets have PR instead and have all of Great Britain as one nation.

I grant you North Korea is a pretty extreme place, but if you play by their rules they are OK. I don't think you really get the Asian culture. Over that way there are common traits which run through various countries. One of them is honour. They take it very seriously, and for that matter the Japs are on the same level. It's against the law in Japan to dishonour someone by spreading bad shit, and even if the bad shit is true. It's similar to our libel and slander laws, but lacks the "but it is true" defence. Anyway, you have a lot to learn. They have different values to our western culture. There is some cross-over though so we can find common ground to get on with one another. The chap in the video had no problems at all because he was polite and well-mannered. Indeed that is the main thing to remember, and it is the same if you are in China or Japan. If you do they will treat you very well. |

Like it is in China, there is a deference to authority. You have to earn your authority, but if you reach the top, the others will be your students. Think of the wise master. If you are the wise one in that culture they will defer to your authority, but there is a catch. As the authority you have a great responsibility to those who are beneath you. Like if you were a teacher in a school it would be absolutely frowned upon if you abused your authority and lied to your students. So they trust you, but you must be benevolent towards them in return. This is absolutely fundamental to the way everyone thinks over there, and it is like that on all levels, and as a father your children will defer to your authority, but you must never abuse that power. When you observe the people blindly following their leader, it is not as you would imagine, in that they are not stupid for this very reason.
So anyway these two things explain why things are as they are in north Korea. You must worship your leader and bow down to him, but in return he will take great care to look after you. This does indeed seem to be the case. the ordinary people who bow down to their leader over there are living a decent life. Look at how clean everything is. It is a very disciplined culture, but discipline does not mean fascism. Fascism is a western cultural thing. You are getting your wires crossed.
Also I can't be bothered explaining individual horror cases. i don't know all the facts, but the above is the overview of how it operates. Think of how it is with martial arts. Discipline is key to its effectiveness.
As for our own lot, well we can be as insulting as we like towards our leaders, but it does not make the blindest bit of difference. They stick two fingers up at us regularly. A common theme in North Korea on why the leader is so liked is he protects them from the Americans. If you knew the history you would understand that has great meaning. It is what is is though.

South Korea is run by the chaebols - look it up if you don't know.
Taiwan - murderous dictatorship until 1992.
The thing is democracy as you know it is unnatural in those parts. We can talk about many other regional countries and they are all more or less the same. For North Korea though the Chinese are OK with them. They give them a bit of support and generally feel sorry for them. It is much poorer than China, but China does not hate them. They see them as another victim of Uncle Sam and his war games. There's also Vietnam which is pretty communist, but I think it is more the benevolent sort. The communism of the soviet union was quite distinct from the East Asian variety. That was a kind of combination of the Russian culture and communism.
