Defence chief backs calls to build new memorial honouring the Navy's slave trade busters: Lord Alan West throws his weight behind effort spearheaded by Penny MordauntAdmiral Lord Alan West has thrown his weight behind a campaign spearheaded by Penny Mordaunt to create the first memorial to the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron, which seized vessels bound for the Americas and freed huge numbers of men, women and children. Great idea given the sacrifice that Britain expended in blood and gold to put a stop to slavery - about time we celebrated our lead in this.

But I can see significant pushback from the left leaning establishment. A memorial that celebrates Britain's efforts to stop slavery would seriously damage an agenda that insists Britan should be punished and pay £trillions in reparations, while on bended knee of course.
