Labour’s Rachel Reeves complains that her £86k salary has left her financially 'short'Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has said the cost of living crisis has left her “increasingly short” financially, despite her £86,000 a year salary. The Labour MP has said she “winces” at her bank balance each month with her mortgage, gas, electricity and food bills all adding up - linkAnd just for interest, Rachel Reeves husband is Nicholas Joicey, a top civil servant on a salary of £110,000. So between them they are pulling in a paltry £200,000, plus expenses benefits perks and very generous pension, no wonder Rachel cant manage. I'm sure she has the sympathy of millions of Labour voters who are struggling to pay rent and to heat their homes.

I weep for those who cannot survive on a paltry £200k a year. There must be some welfare handout she can get.

I'm sure it has not gone unnoticed by the more sensible on the forum that lefties have left this one well alone. Perhaps they're not so daft after all.

My wife and I have joint accounts and always have but it is becoming increasingly 'normal' for spouses to have separate accounts, not sure how that works though. She is simply making the point that if someone on a relatively high salary has problems with the current financial situation, what must it be like for those on low wages. getting money into peoples pockets is a very sensible way to bolster the economy.

I'm sure she has the sympathy of millions of Labour voters who are struggling to pay rent and to heat their homes. I share the worries about her competence if she actually meant it when/if she reportedly said to GB News: “What makes me wince is when I look at my bank statement and I find that the money coming in is increasingly short of the money going out”.
But I do agree with: “I'd like people to have more of their own money in their pockets to spend in the way they choose,” she told GB News. “To do that in a way that's affordable, sustainable and fair you've got to grow the economy.”
To think that after 13 years of Tory rule the UK is taxed so highly while its infrastructure crumbles and its public services register the highest public dissatisfaction for decades — if not ever...

Its not unusual for a Labour politician to be unable to understand money, they bankrupt the country at every oppurtunity. I think her intention was too have a dig at the Tories, god help us, this woman may soon be chancellor of the exchequer.

I suspect her and hubby bought an expensive property before rates went up and has the double whammy of high mortgage rates and extra rooms to heat.
She has scored an own goal IMO.
