Political party seeks funding. What's new about that!!! The Tories successfully court big business and wealthy individuals. Labour is bankrolled by the Unions. Unlike both of them, the SNP has always relied on membership fees and small donations from individuals. The fact that Souter stopped his donations when Sturgeon took over shows how well the party has survived for almost ten years since Sturgeon's election. I am suspicious of a large donor coming in, especially one who will try to influence party policy and push for a lurch to the Right. Most of the "new" members were Labour supporters. Bringing Souter back to the fold could well see a mass walk out. For myself, I would not consider rejoining if there was any move from the present left leaning policies.

They did indeed, hence the arrests, police investigations, seized camper vans, resignations and silences. It would be incredible if anyone were to contribute another 10 pee to the scam, but it is Scotland we are talking about.

Private donations given to the SNP have dried up under Yousaf’s leadership, figures published last month have shown. The SNP has attracted less than £10,000 since he came to power, lol. £10k! The SNP would be better of registering as a charity rather than a political party.

If there is some substance to the allegations, prepare for action in the lead up to the election.

However, quite why they have confirmed a candidate in the Western Isles is a perturbing question. They are gifting the seat to Labour. (see thread in SNP Forum). Is it because MacNeil wouldn't retake the whip after his suspension? If that is the case it is rather petty.

How could the SNP not contest all Scottish seats? Of course, but the insinuation was that because the donations have 'dried up' the Party would not be able to contest every seat. However, I think the person best placed to win the seat for Scotland should be backed and, in Na h-Eileanan An Iar, that is the sitting MP Angus Brendan MacNeil. The SNP standing against him will hand the seat to Labour. According to Electoral Calculus there is a 61% chance of the Red Tories winning, but if 2 contending Nationalists stand, then Labour's task is made easier. www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/seatdetails.py?seat=Na%20h-Eileanan%20An%20Iar%20(Western%20Isles) The website got it wrong in 2019 so could well do so again, but the fight will be so much harder for the SNP to retain the seat.
