Jeez, why do people not check the gov.uk website for the info? Eligibility You can get a Winter Fuel Payment if you were born before 25 September 1957. You usually need to live in the UK. In some circumstances, you might be eligible if you live abroad. When you will not be eligible You will not be eligible if you: have been in hospital getting free treatment for more than a year need permission to enter the UK and your granted leave says that you cannot claim public funds were in prison for the whole of the week of 18 to 24 September 2023 If you live in a care home You can get Winter Fuel Payment if you live in a care home. You will not be eligible if both of the following apply: you get Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) you lived in a care home for the whole time from 26 June to 24 September 2023 So are you confirming the OP is talking nonsense?

Come on FS, you're a bright lad. Look at the eligibility criteria provided by the government. Is there any limit on savings which prevents you from receiving Winter Fuel Allowance?

If people were to read the replies they would see that it was the extra payments ,the cost of living ones , that were being refuted as being paid to the wealthy .

The cost of living payment referred to in the opening post is included in the £600 per household maximum. ( link). The payment is not dependent upon income (in my case, £500 as a widower over 66 but under 80 on 25/09/2023 - had I been over 80 on that date I would have received £600) and is not claimed, just paid.

It seems a few people have confirmed my post. Appealing to authority of " a few people". Hmmm. Don't mean to be insulting to you but at times you seem to lack intelligence. Rude That will explane why your in your job Do you mean "That will explain why you're in your job". Because now I'll be rude and say at times you seem to lack intelligence and knowledge of the English laguage. Apologies if English is not your first language, of course. I know the perfect language perfectly well. But if you think a person with a recognised and diagnosed disability lacks inteligents well shame on you. Being rude to people isn't my normal format of posting. But can be rude and blunt when required. And are you the forums Spokes Person?

No, s/he's just making a point. 'Lacking intelligence and knowledge' certainly appears to be true. Not sure about his language ability, though it does seem rather limited at times. There is no need for you to be rude. That's just your choice.

The so called 'newbie' totheleft has done nothing but insult regular long standing posters including myself, yet when he/she gets it back they go all sulky.
We put up with your nonsense because you're just a harmless old fool, but we wont put up with newbie bully boys trying to goad our regular decent posters.

Are these the same 'decent' posters who were only recently celebrating the death by drowning of 40 people? You have a very odd definition of 'decent', Fairy. By the way, what do you propose to do to these 'bully boys'? You said you won't put up with them. What's the plan?

This idea of giving winter payments in cash was always pretty stupid, like most of Gordon Brown's ideas. Brown just loved the welfare state. Why you would choose to insult a man that is many times your political stature can only be down to political bias.

The bottom line here is that Righties who have a history of it, don't like it when it happens to them.
