Labour considered detaining asylum seekers on the Isle of Mull as part of a "nuclear option" to slash the number of migrants coming to Britain, files reveal. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair believed our system for processing applications 20 years ago was "mad" and urged his advisers to "search out ever more radical measures".

Todays Tory government are just as left wing as Blairs lot were 20 years ago.

The first thing to say about this is that the UNHCR policy back in the day was that those seeking refuge from conflict should be found safe harbour somewhere from where they coukd return once hostilities were ended and rebuild.
Within that franework the man was simply citing UNHCR policy
