The best possible Christmas present any Manchester United supporter could have hoped for. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos team have wrested control of sporting operations at MUFC from the detested Glazer brood which will hopefully be just the first phase in booting these hated bloodsucking leeches out of the club.
Merry Christmas!
Saved us from the Qataris. And at least he cares about the club. So much work to be done though.

I'm no lover of Manchester United, but I wouldn't wish the Glazers on any club (well maybe Spurs or Leeds at a push) and hope they're leaving British football never to come back. Like them or loathe them, United are probably our most prestigious and famous club, and the Glazer brothers getting ownership at Old Trafford was a tragedy. Understandable that the departure of the Glazers is even more of a cause for celebration than the arrival of Sir Jim ...... and however good he proves to be as an owner, there'll be no quick fix enabling the level of success that City are currently capable of to be quickly attained. What have you got against Leeds? We've had more than our share of money problems and bad management already.

Monte I remember the 1970's .... the club is forever tainted. Just because we got chucked out of Europe? It was nearly 50 years ago. Let it go.

Yes but lost count how many times I've been to Old Trafford and how many years I've been a member Well in that case and because it’s crimbo I’ll let you off You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many devoted utd supporters I’ve met who’ve never been near Manchester never mind their ground. I still am old fashioned and you support your local team never mind how big/small it is and good/bad they are.

Ah but I'm a child of the 50s and so many of us of that age just took to them with all the Busby Babes and Munich. First saw them in 1973 which was the relegation season and if my loyalty can survive that then it'll survive Ratcliffe

This is from a few years ago.

But that was from Coronation Street which is fiction. There are some sad people who will hate anything but most football supporters respect the heritage of so many clubs.
As a United supporter some would suppose I should hate Liverpool, Arsenal and of course City and each and everyone of their supporters but I don't.

Spending gazillions on marquee players in the interest of maximising shirt sales in China and the Far East is not a sound strategy if what your real goal is to win the Premier League or the Champions League. But as we've all known for many years is that the Glazers' focus is not on sporting success but rather on money in the bank. Only those who hate United will be sorry to see the back of them. I met a Chinaman on the internet and had a good chat with him as he was visiting Blighty. He told me he was most looking forward to going to a British football match. I thought that was a positive thing in a way and helps our balance of trade. We buy their football shirts, they come to our gigs. So there you go: a trade with a happy ending.

The front rows at all Premier League grounds now appear to be the exclusive preserve of Chinese and other Asian tourists taking snaps on their cell-phones, sometimes of the play but more usually of themselves and each other. Many of the advertising hoardings are in Chinese too, usually for the Asian betting syndicates who sponsor a majority of English clubs these days.
I can't quite see any of this as a positive development and hopefully Sir Jim will be able to reverse the trend at MUFC at least.
Money isn't everything.

Money isn't everything. As I said in another post Dan the PL,Eufa and FIFA are all corrupt and it is all about money and why the PL was formed. You did get why Keane mentioned Prawn sarnies way back? I doubt Jim sees it any differently.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the 'rationale' behind the formation of the Premier League and view that the major corrupting influence in English football.
And yes, I do recall Roy Keane's remarks about the prawn sandwich brigade from the time he originally made them and understand why he felt moved to do so.
The difference with Jim is that, unlike the Glazer tribe or the Arabs, he doesn't need to own a Premier League for the money or to divert attention from unsavoury goings-on at home. Or the Chinese for that matter.
