The link in the OP clearly states they frittered away £84,000 a year in benefits. Because simpleton reporters just multiply the judge's comment by 12 knowing simpleton readers won't question it. But the fact is the judge did not say £84k a year and there is no other evidence beyond his comments And lets not forget, you have provided not a shred of evidence to support your claim.

I think Steve is right. I've been trying to fathom how it was such a large amount all along and then I recalled similar cases where the numbers did not add up regarding benefits and the gutter press. The press are as thick as two short planks. God forbid if they even have to claim benefits. They would never work it out.

Listen you pair of numpties, the link in the OP says...
...A couple who neglected seven children and 36 dogs they kept in a filthy three-bed house while ‘frittering away’ £84,000 a year in benefits have been jailed.
Now, for whatever reason you pair of socialist do gooders, SteveK and BvL, have decided it's wrong. Yet you have provided nothing to support your argument, no evidence no link however tenuous. It must be said, you're showing all the traits of typical outraged lefties. You appear to be putting your fingers in your ears while shouting "I'm not listening" and stamping your little feet. Jeez, knock yourselves out girls.

The quoted figure was £7,000 a month, I don't need a calculator to work out how much a year that is.

But the fact is the judge did not say £84k a year and there is no other evidence beyond his comments Steve, I suggest you stop making a fool of yourself, the Judge when addressing the Court in the run up to passing sentence asked a question of roughly " What did the defendants fritter away £7,000 of Benefits a month on ", that figure came from part of the Crowns evidence, if the two had pleaded not guilty that would have been part of the Crowns case, and open to challenge by the defence in Court Who did the Judge address the question to? probably the two arseholes brief, it matters not, you should consider the fact that all of the Crown's evidence all of it had been accepted by both the defendants and their brief, the Judge nor the reporter or reporters were on trial, the Judge just asked a simple question which the Court reporter or reporters published

Ah, of course, you're also quaffing a delicious 12 year old malt, makes sense TTL is our resident benefits expert. His information has a good track record.
By the way, one day I actually tracked down the master book of rules on a particular benefit and it came in several volumes. You just would not believe how many friggin rules these officials have to follow. It's like the works of Shakespeare in the bureaucracy domain -one of the wonders of the world as to how man could achieve such complexity out of a benefit. Also when you see the kind of intelligence of some of the claimants you get the other extreme, so it is very much like back in the past where the layman signs his name with an x on a contract he can't read. It's sign here and hope for the best and hope you don't get a nasty official.

Both these morons were charged with seven counts of Child Neglect, to which they pleaded guilty on all counts, in order to charge them to put them before the Court in the first place a full detailed investigation was carried out by the Police, evidence gathered from the Paediatricians who assessed their physical and mental health and wellbeing of the children, photographs of the children, the squalor they were living in and what the arresting Officers saw in that filthy house etc. What is obvious is that part of the investigation centred on the finances of the two adults what was their income, why did they not feed and clothe the children did they not have enough money care for them properly? It is also obvious that another vital part of the evidence against them was provided by the Benefits Agency whatever they are called, they knew to the penny what they received no matter how little or how much, proved how much money they received every month, which would negate any attempt of a defence of we could not afford to look after them. The Judge had all that in front of him in black and white before they pleaded guilty as charged, according to the press coverage the Judges stated in his summing up they received £84,000 a year to everyone in Court reporters included, why do you assume a reporter or reporters in Court interpreted it differently or wrongly or are you assuming the media are gilding the Lily, why would they ? the evidence was damming enough The actual quote of the judge is 'Judge Stephen Mooney told them: ‘You frittered away £7000-a-month which should have been spent on the children.' So he never said £84k a year We need to know more. IMHO they were fraudulently claiming exploiting that during lockdowns, inspections were curtailed Worth a read of this report on that point committees.parliament.uk/publications/31513/documents/176815/default/
'. The Department for Work & Pensions overpaid an eye-watering £8.6 billion in 2021–22, of which £6.5 billion was due to fraud. It maintains that current levels are still due to COVID-19 and the timing of its measurement exercise, but is unable to say when levels of fraud and error will fall.'The judge said they frittered away £7000 A month - he did not say it was £7000 in one month only and it is disingenuous to try to excuse this excessive handouts with covid as even if inspections were curtailed to the extent you claim telephones were still available and such levels of handouts on paper should routinely raised alarm everywhere even if ''legal'' . What is shocking is that no-one seems that surprised that anyone can get £84000 nett in benefits a year, how many more are there and why? - I'd fire whoever approved handouts at amounts like that and why on earth aren't they kept check on? If handouts were given cashless - on a debit card type of thing with preloaded amounts then a proper check would be kept on spending and there would be none of the heating or eating bleating because it would be flagged up .

State benefits are paid into bank/building society account Not cash hand outs.
And I can't understand how benefits agency can claim so much fraudulent claims are made has you don't make fresh claims for state cost of living payment has there automatically credited to your account.
And you had to be in reseat of benefits for 12 month before you receive Col payment

Of FFS it does not matter if the Judge was stark naked quoting Shakespeare backwards and juggling four live Ferrets all at the same time, he was in the process of passing sentence on two arseholes both charged with 7 Counts of Child Neglect, they were not charged with any other offences and certainly not any offences related in any shape of form that had anything to do with Benefits they received either lawfully or unlawfully.

Quite but Red's thread title and posts says he wants to pretend anyone can get £84k a year (when the benefit cap for most is £20k)
