Since 2020 just 1,182 of the 111,833 migrants who arrived since 2020 have been sent back. Half of those returned are Albanian. Only 5% of Albanian arrivals have been removed despite Albania being declared a safe country.
Evidence given yesterday to the Home Affairs Committee.
No explanation given why, but it seems obvious that Sunak's pledge to eliminate the 'legacy' backlog by year-end has led the Home Office to focus on those cases rather than recent arrivals. Even then it was revealed yesterday that the pledge will not be met.

Which is the reason why we need to stop illegal immigration . With our top to bottom liberal left system there is little chance of removal in all but extreme cases

It's the law that gets in the way plus the difficulty in negotiating with the countries they come from. If you just dump them there then that country might start their own legal process or god knows what. Each country that they come from has its own set of rules and ways of doing stuff. Then it does not just stop there. Say we piss off some poor African country, then at the same time there might be some huge British mining corporation working over there to mine essential minerals for our industry. The leaders are often dictators and our Foreign Office will have a delicate relationship going that would be a disaster if we just did it without permission. These places are not the easiest to negotiate with at the best of times. They seek to exploit us and their leaders are the same. The UK has a lot of dark history which is coming back on us. Indeed you can sometimes understand why we need the military. Some leaders can not be reasoned with.

From the perspective of third world dictators these deals are great - they get to offload inconvenient populations and solidify power.
The missing elbows here are those of the UK public at large, who are not yet making these convenient deals at their expense painful enough for the beneficiaries

We leave the EU to control our borders only to find another layer of bureaucracy that denies it . The government spouts rhetoric and promises that it can’t keep and lefties salivate over our inability to stem illegal immigrants . It looks like a route towards a more right wing government but the only options we have pro immigration liberal ones . It’s a nightmare.
