Samir Shah has been nominated by the government as its 'preferred candidate' for the role of the next chairman of the BBC, following Richard Sharp's unscheduled early departure. He needs to be affirmed by a House of Commons committee but that is likely to be a mere formality.
According to the Guardian, culture secretary Lucy Frazer said Shah’s 40 years of experience in TV production and journalism gave him “a wealth of experience to bring to the position of BBC chair”.
She added that Shah’s “knowledge of the BBC and his belief in its role as a national broadcaster alongside his extensive work to promote diversity in broadcasting will be invaluable in helping to ensure that the BBC reflects, represents and serves communities across the whole of the UK.”
The three-day a week position carries a salary of £160,000.

Makes a refreshing change to have a Chair who's actually got a background in broadcasting and programme making.
We haven't seen many of those.

Indeed. Hopefully we can look forward to many more programmes of the calibre of The Sex Problems of Moody Teens, Sex, Porn and Teenagers, Rewinding the Menopause and The Myth of Homosexual Decriminalisation.
But of course with an added dollop of diversity on top.
License-payers will be rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation.

Your thread title seems to be suggesting that this guy is not up to the job. Can't say I have ever heard of him. Do you not rate him as an individual or is it your view that a guy who happens to be Indian couldn't be the best man for the job.

How many more of our leading national institutions are to be handed over to the tender care of Boscos?
I wasn't expecting this process to really get underway for another generation or so, but there seems to be a bit of a rush on.

Just follow the money trail, our foreign investors no longer want to be sleeping partners, they wont visible input, half of London is owned by our foreign friends, they are fed up of being invisible, and the BBC and most of the UK establishment are in their pockets.

Actually, for the moment I’m with Walter.
The guy (who i’ve never heard of) apparently has a track record in making stuff.
