The EUSSR has been warned its Schengen open-border area is at risk of collapse, as a result of a growing number of countries re-imposing border checks. Speaking at a university debate in Ljubljana, Slovenian politician Tanja Fajon warned that the open-border system is "under serious threat".

It’s people movement and it’s only going to worsen.
I don’t blame people looking for a better life but we just cannot absorb the numbers.

Slovenia is quite a small nation and one of those that first pullled away from Yugoslavia, I don't think they will have much sway unlike the bigger nations. Undoubtedly the demand for change is growing.

Germany agrees on stricter measures to curb migration

CLOSE all borders now, stop the flow from border to border, we all know the endgame is France to get to the UK, and France have done nothing to discourage the flow, France should now close its borders, that will immediately stem the flow because France will be of no use to them, Macron has cut off his nose to spite his face over Brexit, he's thinks he's being a clever cnut, well it's all about to spectacularly backfire on the blert.

Free movement and a borderless Europe is so incompetent it's criminal, and what's worse than that, the unelected bureaucrats who govern the EU from behind closed doors know damned well it's a disaster they can see it's a disaster, but all you get out of these bloated failed socialists is "freedom of movement is enshrined in the treaties". They are prepared to bow down to, and worship the treaties as a borderless federal states of Europe goes to hell in a handcart as it fills up with every illegal, criminal, chancer and probably terrorists from the middle east and Africa. The architects of this almighty disaster should be charged with crimes against Europe and flung into jail.

It’s ironic that it’s the East Europeans warning about free movement .

You can have freedom of movement with border checks, it does not mean movement has to be completely unhindered, surely?

When immigration becomes a very serious and obvious problem ( and it will) , you can be sure that the lefties that made every excuse not to restrict immigration will tell you that they never were in favour of excess immigration per se ..they just didn’t like the ‘ racist ‘way that the’ far right ‘ wanted to achieve it .

Germany's illegal migration PLUMMETS after new border crackdown. Illegal migration in Germany has plummeted after the government put in place tough new border checks in October. Germany introduced new checks at its border with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, including identity vetting, passport checks, police interviews, static checkpoints and vehicle inspections. Such border checks within the EU are not part of the EU's Schengen borderless travel rules, meaning Germany was forced to introduce a directive, separate to the EU rules. www.gbnews.com/politics/germany-illegal-migration-border-controls-schengenProof if proof were necessary that the EU dream of free movement and open borders is an absolute disaster.

Absolutely, if the EU state of Germany can impose border controls, then the UK should do the same.

Schengen, as originally envisaged, was a relaxation in border control procedures applied by border guards when asked to admit a person who along with their normal passport, also furnished evidence of residence within a short distance of the border AND declared an intent to cross to use facilities similarly nesr the border.
It was intended for persons living near a state border to cross it to use facilities (shops, banks, medical etc) in the other country that avoided a lengthy journey the other way.
It was tve rabid left, keen to allow unfettered movement of all, who expanded it to what it is today, an extremists charter

It seems the horse has bolted.
If this catches on Greece and Italy will be in trouble, really the EU should help them police the Med. Despite the rhetoric it is all about self interest.
