Kehinde Andrews, Professor of Black Studies at Birmingham City University, writes in the Radio Times to criticise ITV for ‘humanising Farage and all that comes with him. The truth is that his politics are nasty and the impact that they have had on the country are still being felt and unfinished’.
“Farage’s appeal has been his racist dog whistles, blaming immigration for all the problems in the country, from the struggles of the NHS to the fact there is too much traffic. During the Brexit campaign he stoked irrational fears of Turkey joining the EU, and the low point was the “breaking point” poster depicting hordes of Syrian refugees with the subheading “the EU has failed us”. It was so offensive that Dave Prentis, of the Unison union reported it to the police as a “a blatant attempt to incite racial hatred” and it was referred by the police to the CPS.” www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/reality-tv/nigel-farage-im-a-celebrity-duty-of-care-concerns-itv-comment/Writing separately, Nadine White, ‘Race Correspondent’ of the Independent, claimed that:
“Given right-wing politician Nigel Farage's track record of racially offensive remarks, ITV's decision to have him in same jungle as a Black woman & mixed heritage man has raised qs about the broadcaster's duty of care towards the contestants & viewers alike.”
She cites another commentator, the black comedienne London Hughes, on Twitter:
“If I went on #ImACeleb and found out I was on the show with Nigel Farage, I’d leave and sue for racial negligence… but that’s just me. I’d say that I’m quite shocked that ITV is platforming a racist as a form of entertainment, but nothing really surprises me anymore” It seems that Nige isn’t flavour of the month in the black community and ITV is taking some reputational flak from members of its core target audience for hiring him.

He is certainly marmite is Nigel, probably great for TV though, he has been under attack by the establishment for years, so I guess it is like water off a ducks back.

Before Farage came along it was virtually impossible to talk about immigration without being called a racist. It seems that, no matter how much farage says it's not about race but about how many people the country can support, the Left keep bringing it back to "racism". I guess it's a very easy way to discredit people and it's very hard to argue against. I see that on the "I'm a celeb" show that Frog accused him of racism for the poster campaign. Farage just said it wasn't about racism but he didn't bother to argue much - you just can't win against people who are convinced you're racist.
I've actually never heard Farage make a racist remark. But it doesn't stop people calling him racist.

Nigel Farage is not a racist. It is not racist to want an alternative to freedom of movement based on skills and numbers.
And the record of the Tories on migration is not his fault.

It would seem reasonable that every contestant should be informed who the other contestants will be, so that they'll be aware in advance who they'll be sharing the jungle with. Then if a Black woman doesn't want to appear in the same programme as Mr. Farage she can decline to sign the lucrative contract, just as Mr. Farage could decline if the prospect of being in relatively close proximity to a black person didn't appeal. As adults they could make up their own minds, rather than ITV adopting a 'Nanny Broadcaster' overview of deciding for them.
Similarly with viewers, if you quite fancy seeing Mr.Farage in the jungle then tune in, if you have a concern that seeing and hearing him might give you nightmares at bedtime, then give the programme a miss. Just as I make the decision for myself to never subscribe to the Independent as the thought of contributing to the wages of a 'Race Correspondent' wouldn't be good for my blood pressure.

The book I recommended examines in some detail claims that Farage has racist views. I think the evidence suggests the answer to that question is far more complex than the simplistic "oh yes he is, oh no he isnt" views reported and expressed here.

Most people, if carefully enough examined, have 'racist views'. As Stalin once suggested, everything pivots on who you examine and how 'thoroughly' you do the examination.

I'm sure most people will be unsurprised that a black academic accuses Farage of racism, no biggie. It will certainly be water off a ducks back to Farage.
Regarding the OP, what on earth is 'black studies'? And how does someone become a professor of black studies? Is it just some bullshit course invented by minority appeasing lefties. And since we're supposed to be all diverse and inclusive these days, is there an option for students to study 'white studies'? Is there such a thing as a professor of white studies, or would that be racist. Answers on a postcard kids...

We've discussed Prof. Andrews before. He's the one who lobbied for Churchill College Cambridge to change its name on the grounds that Winston Churchill was no better than Adolf Hitler when it came to racist attitudes and behaviour.

There is something deeply ironic when you have a black professor of Black Studies berating the white man for his lack of etiquette in the jungle.

But hey, that's allowed, cos the BBC and Ch. 4 etc do it so it must be right. I mean left?

Still for £1.5 million, would you go on it? I can't blame Nigel.
