Apparently, any enjoyment from a right wing media source is supposed to be a bad thing on this forum. The fanatical far-left do nothing but try and belittle people for not limiting themselves to far-left propaganda. Still, I'm glad you can laugh about it. I think lefties are brilliant, barking but brilliant. Talking to a lefty is more entertaining than TV these days that's for sure. Unless you're watching GB News of course, the only sensible unbiased news channel on TV. ha ha ha and you think Lefties are entertaining LOL.

First major test for Reform is Ben Habib, deputy leader, running in the by election in Wellingborough. Seat up for grabs after Peter Bone's recall petition. Tories had chosen a candidate, Peter Bone then said if they didn't swap them for his girlfriend, he'd run as an independent. So his girlfriend is the new candidate... ๐

He had great ideas about declaring the NI protocol illegal, but it all turned out to be hot air. He's a likeable chap, but he's just an eloquent lightweight. I think he'll be struggling to keep his deposit. I thought Peter Bone was a good God fearing Catholic, but he certainly seems to have gone right off the rails. I think his GF will do better than Habib, she might even win. I lived in Wellingborough for a long time. I wonder if Ben Habib knows where Knox Road is?

Thanks for the local insight BIW. If Ben Habib doesn't fair well as a deputy leader, do you think that this would mean they are polling ahead of where they are? My thinking is that this is naturally a Tory constituency, so some Tory votes going to Reform would be needed for someone else (I'm guessing Labour here) to pull ahead of the Tories?

I think Habib will be seen for what he is - parachuted in candidate. It used to flip flop between Labour and Tory 40 years or so ago, but the Tories have held it consistently for a long time now. I honestly think Labour should win.

Ignoring the idiocy of some posters on this thread....
Every now and then byelections do come up that are far more important for one party than the others. In theory this should be a comfortable Tory win - they got 62% of the vote last time but we have seen similar big majorities lost to Labour at recent byelections. Not sure a narrow Tory win or a narrow Labour majority would be overly surprising or beneficial/damaging to either. This byelection seems all about Reform. They have underperformed compared to polling in ,any recent byelections. This seat though almost couldn't be better for them and if they are to be taken seriously this year, they surely have to do well here. No surprise therefore that they have thrown one of their (relatively) big names at it. Thy don't have to win or even go very close (either would be a massive boost for them) but surely they do have to post at least 15-20% this time

Agree, and that's where I was heading with my post. If Habib, as deputy leader and a very strong social media presence, doesn't pull punches, I wonder if Reform are a bit oversold at the minute. I think that we need Farage to make a comeback.

I tend to agree but then if we go back to 97 the Labour party then was largely full of relatively unknown entities in terms of running the country. They managed to run the country, of course it is arguable how well and to what effect, but realistically they became big guns in politics. Having said that I think since 97 we have had a pretty duff bunch of politicians with some exceptions. Reform do not necessarily have to do really well as the Liberals have won some outstanding by-elections but have reverted to type at general elections. I think steady progress would suffice but the fickle nature of the British electorate may mean that both Tories and Labour get a kicking but whether reform do well out of that is anyone's guess. All to play for. Farage is dithering too much, he needs to be decisive one way or the other as people will respect that more than uncertainty, look at Boris and his referendum decision.
