Yes indeed, I'm sad enough to actually watch this.
Proceedings have just halted for a break. Cummings evidence has thus far been absolutely scathing of Boris Johnson and the cabinet office, I doubt anyone will be surprised. The lawyer questioning him (I forget his name offhand) quoted messages in which Cummings referred to senior politicians as 'fuckpigs' and 'cunts'. Punches are not being pulled. I'm quite looking forward to Cummings explaining why he broke covid rules to test his eye sight. Proceedings commence at 1.45pm.

Look how long he was protected for after his clear breech of COVID guidelines.

Cummings is attempting to give the impression that no one in the cabinet office liked Boris, tbh he is comming across as a spoiled brat who tantrums when he doesn't get his own way.

It's not exactly telling us anything we didn't already know is it. This enquiry is going to end up being as big a white elephant as HS2.

From Marcia Falkender (remember her)through to Cummings you have to ask how many a*******s have been running ruining this country behind the scenes.

Johnson if and when he is called is under no obligation to be careful with his words as he has refused the ex-pm salary.
Might get interesting.

Predictably it's turned into a blame game when the purpose of the enquiry should have been to establish what is the best way of dealing with these pandemics. Cummings is obviously a highly disruptive individual who seems to hold everyone else in contempt. Carrie was right to sack him. The fact is that NO ONE knew what to do - not even "the experts". It would have been better if the politicians, civil service AND the experts weren't all fighting like ferrets in a sack.
And it begins to look like Boris called it right. He didn't want the lockdowns and wanted to do what Sweden did - inform people and rely on people using common sense. He was also right about not spending vast amounts on shutting down the economy to save a few old people who didn't have long to live anyway. This is the basis of how NICE authorises expensive medicines - on the cost of each year of added life. The cost of lockdowns clearly exceeded the ceiling of £30k per year.

I'm an old fogey and was in a very poor state of health as the pandemic got going, and it seems wholly sensible to me that prolonging my life shouldn't be the government's priority. Johnson and his cronies no doubt expressed that more coarsely behind the scenes, but so what? Johnson, though, never looked or sounded like a credible leader. I never got why anyone either took him seriously or was entertained by him. He just seemed a buffoon, emphasising his buffoonery for laughs, and he didn't make me laugh.

Johnson is full of 'buffoonery' though on big issues he seems to deliver a better Brexit than May and he got us alternative gas sources when Russia went aggressive in Ukraine and of course got though dodgy vaccines delivered quickly. Ironic that he was caught out by his own buffoonery being used against him. Personally thought he was a lazy egocentric maverick.
